Racing, yet crawling at snail’s speed

Contorted, infested with corruption,

They hide in their fortified bunkers

While Okada-death trap- parades the streets

With his frequent machine gun horn-bursts

Discipline and Perseverance -what does it take?

It requires discipline and perseverance and practice to writing a song that is enduring - a test of time. For the beginner you have to accept the reality that you will write many songs that you cannot write home about before you write a hit. And that is, if you persevere. No matter how talented one is, there is a need to polish and hone that talent to such a degree that it becomes a rose among thorns. As a songwriter for over ten years ...

Free verse

It has no rules what so ever. The lines are irregular and may or may not rhyme. Instead of fitting content to form, the poet allows content to shape the form, changing line length and meter to emphasize words and sounds. Free verse develops its own rhythms, most often annotated by the use of the line-break, and is capable of complex effects of rhythmical and syntactical ambiguity, .free verse should not be confused with free base

As free base is a totally different form!

The beauty of a Poem,

Not in predictable rhymes,

Or in length like Mississippi;

Never in rhymes that are forced;

Or in metres unruly.

It is replete with variations,

Come from great imagination;

So buoyant, it carries you,

So sweet, your tongue you almost chewed,

And so dazzling like diamond.

The quality of a great poem,

Not staccato mixture of themes;

Or in title that does not fit;

Never lacking in similes,

A very boring topic, huh? When writing, it is very important. Sifting through many poems, I've noticed that some of y'all might not have done so well in English class.

Let's go over a few common mistakes:

It's/Its - "It's" is a contraction of "it is", as in It's not smart to confuse grammar. "Its" is possession by and unidentified noun. The cat licked its paws.

Accept/Except - "Accept" means to receive willingly. accept an award. ...

Hi guys,

Im not sure if this has been discussed before, but here it is.

I've noticed quite a few times that when offering my suggestions to a poet on syllable count, they sometimes don't know where to start the re-working!

When I write, I usually stick to a meter.

10 syllables a line

or 8 syllables followed by 10 syllables followed by 8, followed by 10.

Just an example.

When the desired effect you're after is a smooth poem that flows without flaw, write your piece ...

Do you love to read great poems which are perfect in both metre and rhyme? Don't they stand head and shoulders above some of the mediocre poetry that you see doing the rounds today?

I have just discovered a wonderful book called "The Ode Less Travelled" by Stephen Fry, which explains with much fun, how to get perfect metre into your poems. My poetry has improved one hundred per cent as a result of doing a few of the exercises in this book.

hearts of the women and men who wrote these works.

Read more about the source of the poet’s inspiration.

If you can discover what’s in the poet’s soul, heart, and mind,

you can unearth his or her motivation for putting pen to paper.

A metrical composition; a composition in verse written in certain measures, whether in blank verse or in rhyme, and characterized by imagination and poetic diction;

BLANK verse is a type of poetry, distinguished by having a regular meter, but no rhyme. In English, the meter most commonly used with blank verse has been iambic pentameter (like that which is used in Shakespearean plays).

Introduction to Song writing- the why, who, what, when, how, what does it take?

As the title suggests, this is just an introduction to song writing. The ideas espoused here stem primarily on my experience as a singer/ songwriter and worship leader both in the UK and Ireland. It is also based on my intimacy with God who has deemed it fit to equip me with this gifting to use to build up His Body before He reappears. I am therefore not writing as a sage.
