Pretending
Pretending
I went into an old church, I needed time alone.
I heard an ole preacher praying, sobbing as he went on.
He said, Lord, I am so very worried about my congregation.
They’re just going through the motions with their salvation.
Lord, they know about Jesus and about his birth.
They know about his resurrection and ascension from earth.
They know about the beatitudes and the parables he taught.
They know about his disciples and where they were sought.
They know about the five thousand feed by a few fish.
They know about the impotent man by faith he got his wish.
They know about Gethsemane and the arrest in the garden.
They know about Jesus’ trial and of Barabbas’ pardon.
Yet Lord I’m afraid; they’re only playing their part.
Lord I’m so afraid; they don’t know Jesus in their heart.
Oh Lord please, send revival; I think that’s what he said.
My needs seemed insignificant, ashamed I lowered my head.
I thought about the preacher and his fervent prayer.
And then I knew the reason God had brought me there.
Oh how this realization cut me like a knife.
See, I was just pretending that I knew Jesus Christ.

Re: Pretending
Excellent and so true. Really I like the way you write poems. Although I am miles apart from poetry but I believe if you read the first line and if you keep on reading the poem to the end, you have found the perfect poem. I really liked it and God bless you abundantly, so that through poems, you may glorify Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ and win souls to His honor and glory. Thank you for choosing to be a part of the family of CHRISTIAN TALK.
God bless you

Re: Pretending
Thank you for pretending it is very true that most of the Christians do prtend and go through the motions in Church, but out of it they blend in with the sinners. I like to point out from what I have read, that there is still some true preachers and believers. And the leaders may our lord always be with them for they carry the great load. God bless you, and thank you for your Poem. Anastasia
