The Songbird in the Dark
The Songbird In The Dark
Had visions of rapture
Singing like a lark
Painting heavenly pictures
She turned her handicap
Into strength, fortitude
Following the divine road-map
She blessed a great multitude
She turned her thick darkness
Into a glorious light
Blessing, in spite of blindness
Strengthened in the power of His might
She told a glorious story
Still being told today
Resounding the praise of the Holy
Who came to show the way
That songbird is Fanny
Dead, long, long ago but still speaking
That songbird is Crosby
Poor but many enriching
Like a robin singing in the rain
Praising her Saviour all the day long
Lifted from the mundane earthly plane
Filled to the brim with song upon songs
With no sight but full of insight
Wafting, crafting melodious tunes
With a vision kindled by the Light
Waxing stronger, through every prune
Heard ‘Blessed assurance Jesus is mine?’
Lifted by “To God Be the glory”?
She waited and got them from the Vine.
Wait on Him for your glorious story.
Fanny Crosby was born blind.
But she blessed the world with over 8000 songs, some of which are still being sung today.
She had no natural sight abut a deep and sharp spiritual sight that birth songs like “To God Be the Glory “and “Tell Me the Story of Jesus.”
What is your disability?
That may well be the door to your strength.
Seek God’s face and commit all to Him and watch what He will do with your broken and empty vessel. He will fill it with a new wine that will serve humanity even long after you are gone.
“Fanny Crosby has been called a ‘Songbird in the Dark’ Though blinded in infancy, she wrote hymns that inspirationally envisioned our future reunion with Christ “

"With no sight but full of insight

Such are the words of a servant who is truly dead to self
enough to be able to take their suffering and turn it
into glory for the Lord. Few can reach these heights
unless they carry the cross, crucify their flesh.
