The False Gospel: The Gospel of Peter Empty The False Gospel: The Gospel of Peter

Post  SmileBig Tue 23 Sep 2008, 8:50 pm

Recently I found Gospel of Peter and I got interested in it. Here are few things that I found in Gospel of Peter and I firmly believe that it is false and written by some muslim to mislead others by using deception.

The Account of the Crucifixion of Jesus in the Gospel of Peter

4. And they brought two criminals and crucified the Lord between them. But he himself remained silent, as if in no pain. And when they set up the cross, they put an inscription on it, "This is the king of Israel." And they piled his clothing in front of him; then they divided it among themselves, and gambled for it. But one of those criminals reproached them and said, "We're suffering for the evil that we've done, but this fellow, who has become a savior of humanity, what wrong has he done to you?" And they got angry at him and ordered that his legs not be broken so he would die in agony.

5. It was midday and darkness covered the whole of Judea. They were confused and anxious for fear the sun had set since he was still alive. For it is written that, "The sun must not set upon the one who has been executed." And one of them said, "Give him vinegar mixed with something bitter to drink." And they mixed it and gave it to him to drink. And they fulfilled all things and brought to completion the sins on their head. Now many went about with lamps, and, thinking that it was night, they laid down. And the Lord cried out, saying, "My power, my power, you have abandoned me." When he said this, he was taken up. And at that moment, the veil of the Jerusalem temple as torn in two.

I did not know that there is Gospel of Peter also, I have heard of Gospel of Judas and Barnabas but never heard of it. Thank you for posting it here and informing us regarding what Paul informed us of:

"For if he that comes preaches another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or [if] you receive another spirit, which you have not received, or another gospel, which you have not accepted, you might well bear with [him]" (you might accept this false messenger and Gospel). Cor 11: 4

"I marvel that you are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ to another gospel :7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. :8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed." Gal 1: 6

The False Gospel: The Gospel of Peter Empty Re: The False Gospel: The Gospel of Peter

I believe that:

  1. Many do not want to hear the truth, but rather listen to myths.
    Timothy 4:4 - And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables

  2. Entertainment that mimics the world, yet bears a Christian label is a way of sharing Christ with the lost.
    Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

  3. Those who teach that giving will guarantee great material blessings are false teachers.
    2 Peter 2:3 - And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

  4. Some Bible scriptures are stories made up by the writers to teach godly wisdom.
    2 Timothy 3:16 - All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

  5. Worshiping Mary's image is paying homage to the mother of God.
    Exodus 20:4 - Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth

  6. In the latter days, many in the church will follow after a false faith that unites all religions.
    2 Thessalonians 2:3 - Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

  7. A Christian does not have to change his lifestyle to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
    Galatians 5:21 - Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

  8. Many want to hear, and they find, teachers that suit their fleshly desires.
    2 Timothy 4:3 - For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

  9. Because the Jews are God's chosen people, they have eternal security.
    Romans 10:9 - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

  10. Teachings that promote good works give man the glory instead of God.
    Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

  11. Doctrine that teaches that the Lord's Supper has saving power is faulty doctrine.
    Luke 22:19 - And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

  12. The pathway to Heaven is wide.
    Matthew 7:14 - Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

  13. The Bible explains that those who teach false doctrine will be destroyed.
    2 Peter 2:1 - But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

  14. The ravening wolves that teach heresy will appear as gentle goats.
    Matthew 7:15 - Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

  15. Anyone teaching false doctrines should be nurtured in Christ, and shown the correct way.
    Romans 16:17 - Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

  16. Jesus warned that there would be many who would be deceived.
    Matthew 24:11 - And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

  17. We should withdraw from people that teach gain is godliness.
    1 Timothy 6:5 - Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

  18. Jesus told that those who teach the beliefs of men are not true worshipers of God.
    Matthew 15:9 - But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

  19. Paul was amazed that some in the Galatian church followed after another gospel so quickly.
    Galatians 1:6-8 - I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

  20. We are called to be knowledgeable of the Word, no longer as children subject to the lies of men.
    Ephesians 4:14 - That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

  21. Philosophies and vanities are worldly teachings and not of Christ.
    Colossians 2:8 - Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

  22. Many deceivers teach that Jesus Christ is not the son of God who came in the flesh.
    2 John 1:7 - For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

  23. We are to receive those who teach false doctrines into our homes to help them.
    2 John 1:9-11 - Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

  24. In the latter days, some will depart from the faith and follow doctrines of devils.
    1 Timothy 4:1 - Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

  25. Jesus will fight against those who do not repent of believing in false doctrines.
    Revelation 2:14-16 - But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

The False Gospel: The Gospel of Peter Empty Gospel of Judas Iscariot

Post  lovingdove Wed 24 Sep 2008, 5:46 pm

Gospel of Judas - What Is It?
The Gospel of Judas was discovered in the 1970s in an Egyptian cave. Until recently, no institutions were willing to pay the exorbitant fee to get the manuscript due to its dubious origin. A foundation in Switzerland eventually purchased the codex to release its content.

In 2006, National Geographic announced that the manuscript has been authenticated by carbon dating, studied, and translated by biblical scholars. However, up to one-third of the gospel according to Judas is missing or illegible.

This manuscript held by National Geographic is likely dated to the 5th century AD.

Gospel of Judas - Who Wrote It and What Does it Say?
It is unknown who wrote the Gospel of Judas. Our biggest clue comes from Irenaeus (a second century Christian) who referenced the Gospel of Judas as invented history of heretics and rebels. In about 180 AD, Irenaeus wrote:

“They declare that Judas the traitor was thoroughly acquainted with these things, and that he alone, knowing the truth as no others did, accomplished the mystery of the betrayal; by him all things, both earthly and heavenly, were thus thrown into confusion. They produce a fictitious history of this kind, which they style the Gospel of Judas.” (Adversus Haereses I.31.1; Roberts-Donaldson translation.)

The Gospel of Judas is a Gnostic Gospel and is consistent with Gnostic viewpoints. The Gnostics believed that the road to salvation was through secret knowledge given by Jesus to his inner circle. The biggest controversy in this text revolves around the theory that Jesus wanted Judas to betray Him in order to fulfill Jesus’ plan. This is contrary to the New Testament, which presents Judas as a traitor.

The Gospel of Judas begins with these words: "the secret account of the revelation that Jesus spoke in conversation with Judas Iscariot during a week three days before the celebrated Passover." Later, the text says that Jesus tells Judas, “you will exceed all of them. For you will sacrifice the man that clothed me.” (The Gospel of Judas, Published by the National Geographic Society, 2006.)

This is contrary to the New Testament account. If it was Jesus’ plan for Judas to betray Him, why would Jesus call Judas the “one headed for destruction” in John 17:12? Jesus also stated that it would have been better if Judas had never been born: “For I, the Son of Man, must die, as the scriptures declared long ago. But how terrible it will be for my betrayer. Far better for him if he had never been born!"

The Bible reports that Judas committed suicide when he saw that Jesus was condemned. Why would Judas do this if He was following Jesus’ instructions? Matthew 27:5 says, “Then Judas threw the money onto the floor of the Temple and went out and hanged himself.”

Gospel of Judas - Why Isn't It Accurate?
The Gospel of Judas is considered "Gnostic" in origin. Generally, Gnostics hold that salvation of the soul comes from a quasi-intuitive knowledge of the mysteries of the universe and of secret formulae indicative of that knowledge. The gospel according to Judas is simply a heretical forgery like the Gospel of Mary, Gospel of Thomas, and the Gospel of Philip.

We now have over 25,000 ancient texts and fragments confirming the legitimate biblical accounts. Maybe there’s a reason we’ve only found one copy of the Gospel of Judas laying in an ancient trash heap in the back of a solitary cave. Just as Judas betrayed Jesus Christ, this gospel has betrayed the truth of God.
