Twas The Night
Twas The Night
It was the time of taxation; through out, all the land
By decree from Augustus, upon every man
So Joseph and Mary went up from Galilee
To the City of David; to pay Caesar’s fees
And so it was; that while, they were there
Mary’s time was accomplished; her baby to bear
But throughout the city; throughout all of Bethlehem
For Mary and Joseph; no room could be found
But that of a stable; where the animals were fed
A babe in swaddling clothes; the manger his bed
And shepherds were abiding; in that country, in the fields
Watching over their flocks; as the night was still
When an angel of the Lord; appeared with the good news
Fear not for this night; a Savior is born unto you
In the City of David; in a manger, in Bethlehem
Wrapped in swaddling clothes, the babe will be found
And a multitude of heavenly hosts, appeared just then
Saying glory to God in the highest; peace on earth, goodwill toward men
And the shepherds turned aside; when the angels were gone
To the City of David; to what the Lord, had made known
All were exactly, as the angel had told
From Bethlehem, to the manger, to the swaddling clothes
For all they had heard and for all they had seen
The shepherds returned, praising God for all things
