As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. 30Simon's mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her. 31So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them. (Mark 1:29-31)
Mark tells of Jesusí power and authority over sickness. Those He touched were immediately made whole. One of the most dreaded diseases of Jesusí day was leprosy. But Jesus even touched an unclean leper, and he was healed instantly.
The Bible makes it clear that one of the benefits of Christís death on the cross is healing. The prophet Isaiah foretold of the provision of healing through Christ in Isaiah 53:5:
ďBut he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.Ē In Matthew 10:8, Jesus gave His disciples authority to heal in His name: ďHeal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons.Ē
James admonished those who were sick to pray and to ask the elders of the church to pray the prayer of faith that they would be healed (James 5:13-16). The men who brought their friend to Jesus in Mark 2:1-12 brought him in faith. They believed Jesus could heal their friend. In the same way, you can come to Christ in faith for your healing need. The same Jesus can heal you as well.
