Kiowa Ridge

Kiowa Ridge

We had a place on Raccoon Ridge at the end of Kiowa Road

A place so far back in the woods; God pumped sunshine in through a hose

Twenty some odd, of the most beautiful acres; carved out among oaks and pines

A place where life took and easier pace and nature grew young minds

The path at the end of the road; brings you to a clear water brook

Where a small bridge spans the gap; it’s the perfect place to wet a hook

And across the bridge the path meanders, up terraced rows to the house

There in the shadow of the ole porch swing, life’s questions get worked out

And we were safe and we were secure, until tragedy came to play

In the coolness of early evening; Death took my father away

Dad was on his mower; mowing the field, down near the bridge

When something happened to the mower and it threw him over the ridge

When Mama didn’t hear the mower’s noise; she went to take a look

And that’s where she found Daddy; in the clear waters of the brook

Horror filled the evening air and its surprising, how slow time passes

But I refused to let Dad go until Sis and I found his glasses

O how the tears did flow; my soul shrieked of sorrow’s pain

And my faith just seemed to fall away; I took God’s name in vain

Finally in my pity party; I asked God, why this was done

And a peace came into my body, as He reminded me of Christ, His Son

Very nice and touching poem and I say that God has really blessed you. In your distress, peace of Jesus came on you and your family and comforted you. Yet I have seen people after losing someone close would ask me "Why God did this?". I always pray for peace of Jesus to surround them.

I was really moved by your poem and thank you for reminding us and especially me of the "Love of Jesus Christ that fills us and changes us".

Blessings and peace in Jesus

Irv I must admit that I am really dumb at poetry but after reading this poem of yours I remembered how my father died and how my life shattered to pieces and I also remember a Pastor coming to our house on the fourth day and prayed to God to be with us in this disturbing time. Immediately I could feel love of Jesus filling that gap. We lose loved ones but they are all with Jesus, I feel happy as they do not have to worry, no more sickness and disease just living with Jesus.

Anyways, I was also touched by your poem, the sadness it carries and the hope it shows.
