WATER WALKING PETER

Post  Waqar Daniel on Wed 27 Jun 2007, 6:38 pm

Peter answered, "Lord, if it is you, order me to come to you on the water."
Jesus said, "Come!" So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus.
But when he noticed how strong the wind was, he became afraid and started to sink. He shouted, "Lord, save me!"
Immediately, Jesus reached out, caught hold of him, and said, "You have so little faith! Why did you doubt?"
When they got into the boat, the wind stopped blowing.
The men in the boat bowed down in front of Jesus and said, "You are truly the Son of God." [Mathew 14:28-33]
This is one of the beautiful stories recorded in the Gospel of Mathew. To me, every story in the Bible has a meaning for us and guidance for our personal lives. There are three parts recorded in the passage.

1. Peter asking Jesus for permission to come to Him.
2. Peter faces the storm.
3. Jesus calms the storm.

The most beautiful part of Peter's life is how he followed Jesus and showed his faith in Jesus. When seeing Jesus walking on water, he asked Jesus if he could walk over water and come to Jesus. This is indeed a great show of faith by Peter. Although, Peter, a fisherman by profession, would have surely known how to swim but would have certainly never walked on water. Who can walk on water? Even for Moses and Israelites, God parted the Red Sea and did not command them to walk over the sea. This indeed is a great example of faith shown by Peter.

Similary while following Jesus, whatever hurdle we may face, water or fire, we must follow Jesus and try to come to Him with all our heart and soul like Peter.

While walking towards Jesus, Peter found how strong the wind was, and he got afraid and called out to Jesus to save him. Now when we try to walk towards Jesus, we face hurdles by satan. Satan does not want us to walk to Jesus because one step taken towards Jesus makes satan lose the battle. These hurdles may be in any form or shape.

Now comes the most interesting part, Peter calls Jesus to save him, and Jesus, immediately reached out and brought Peter to the safety of the boat and then commanded the wind to stop. The most ineteresting part is that while Jesus was holding the hand of Peter, Peter and Jesus were in the storm. After making sure that Peter is in the safety of the boat, Jesus commanded the storm to fade out.

Similalry, while facing hardships, we sometimes think that God has forgotten about us. No, He never does, He always brings us out of the big and small storms and ensures that we are safe and then He rebukes the storm/s.
"When you pass through waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze" [Isaiah 43:2]
What a wonderful God the Father we serve in the Spirit through our only Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

God bless you all

What I understand from this story and the inspiration I get from this story is that in Jesus Christ, we can defy all the laws of science. Isn't it amazing? Certainly we can do anything through Christ.

Indeed we serve an awesome God

I really love the character of Peter and how childishy he tries to follow Jesus everywhere, even on water. There are many things to learn in this story and Daniel you have rightly pointed it out that God always take care of us, first he puts us in a safe place and then calms the storms around us.

Thank you for a great message.

I hope and pray that people do understand the real meaning of the whole incident. I agree with you Daniel, that Bible's each word has a meaning and a use for us to use it in our lives. Only our stubbronness makes these verses lose thier meaning in our sinful nature.

Last night I was watching Cheaters program and all the unmarried couples were complaining that their boyfriends or girlfriends were insincere and having good times with others. Why don't they get married? It is such a foolish program that makes me sick.

The point here is that we do not rely on God and try to solve things our way and we are always wrong when we try our way instead of God's way.

the secret to the victory here is, In the storms of life, Don't look at the storm [Problems]. Keep your eyes on Jesus. And on the word of God.
Jesus said to Peter, "Come", And at that word peter went towards Jesus, But then he took his eyes of Jesus and looked at the high waves, Then he began to doubt.
Find out what God has said about you in the Bible, and keep your faith fixed on that.

Verse twenty nine is the result of believing, and verse thirty is the result of unbelieving; both of which are our examples to behold the difference.
