To Vote or Not to Vote…? that is the question. Empty To Vote or Not to Vote…? that is the question.

With a few days to go before the polling booths open, the burning questions in the minds of many voters, including this writer is: to vote or not to vote?

There are the traditional Labour voters who will vote Labour until they die, even if they are being killed by Labour. Similarly there are Conservatives to the core who will not dream of voting for any other party except the Conservatives, even if their local MP is a con, a crook or a caricature. The same applies to other party supporters perhaps to a lesser degree as the case may be.

There are however many voters who are on the fringe 9 floating voters, some may say), undecided whether to vote or not sure of who to vote for if they make the effort to vote at all.

Many do not just want to vote for the sake of voting when there is no clear choice amongst the parties vying for their votes. Many have lost faith in politics and politicians that they simply don’t know what to do. If they sit down at home they think they are wasting their democratic right but they also think their vote will make no difference more so when no party appeals to them.

Imagine the days when voting was not free for all (women and black excluded) and people fought for the right to vote, Now, we have the vote and many have no appetite to partake of the political cake. Yet if you refuse to vote, who do you hold accountable when things go wrong? You have no guts to complain; after all you did not exercise your franchise. It is a dilemma, isn’t it?

Some think because the odds are stacked against the party of their choice there is no need to vote as their vote will be as it were, wasted.

Then there is the suggestion of ‘voting with intelligence’ by voting for a party that is not of your choice just to keep another party out of power. For instance it is reported that some Labour politicians have urged labour voters to vote Liberal in constituencies where labour has no hope of coming second just to keep the Conservatives out.

Some are predicting a hung parliament where no party has an overall majority and where there will have to be a political horse-trading between the parties in order to form a government.

Of course the Conservatives will not like it but their showing in the polls does not arguer well for them. They are likely to have a majority but unlikely have enough to form a government without the help of other parties. They may not want to do a deal with labour which has been in power for long. This means they would have to give some political sweeteners to the Liberals to encourage them to do a deal with them. The alternative is a Lib-lab pact which may keep labour in power, I don’t think the Liberal party would like to prop up another Labour government. Will the Liberal party be the King Makers?

We have to wait and see how the parties fare not long from now.

Whatever happens, I foresee that British politics will never be the same again.

Yes, it is difficult to know what to do if you are not a hardcore stickler to any of the parties. Nevertheless you have to make up your mind and vote. This is why you need to read the manifestoes of the various parties to enable you vote not just with your heart but with your head. It is true that manifestoes may just be cheap words bandies about to get your vote but that is what we can hold the parties accountable for in a democracy. Every party would like to show you their best outfit, make promises they know they cannot keep just to get your vote. We have to go with the system we have. If no one votes there will be nothing to count. If you vote your vote will be counted. Vote on the issues that count for the people who address the issues that count then your vote will count

Party people who will uphold standards and values enshrined in the word of God who will not steer the ship of this nation in a godless, goalless, soulless direction.

1I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

1Tim2:1-3
Submission to the Authorities

1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Rom13:1

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. Prov29:2
