Food from Heaven

The Word of God

Heavenly delicatessen

Divine dainties delivered to

the redeemed of the Lord;

Full of spiritual vitamins

Soul food, succulent, sumptuous

Bread from heaven

Satisfies the longing soul.

Alluring, adorning, full of vision;

With sixty-six broadcast channels;

With all colours of the rainbow;

Speaking of His unfailing promise;

Healing balm from His side;

Covenants, old and new

Established on better promises;

More beautiful than diamonds,

more costly than gold;

Richer than the vaults of the Vatican;

Word of comfort, Come forth

from the throne of Grace;

a mirror in which you see your face;

milk for babies, meat and bone for adults.

What is my attitude to Your word?

It is my delight, I have great regard for it, I long for it, pant for it, yearn for it like a deer pants for water, like a dry land is thirsty for water, I respect it, I love it; I esteem it above my necessary food, I remember it; meditate in it day and night; I treasure it.

“relishing every fragment of your counsel., I hang on to these words for dear life! I set your instructions to music
and sing them as I walk this pilgrim way.

I meditate on your name all night, God,
treasuring your revelation, O God.
Still, I walk through a rain of derision
because I live by your Word and counsel.

57-64 Because you have satisfied me, God, I promise
to do everything you say. was up at once, didn't drag my feet,
was quick to follow your orders.”

“The godless spread lies about me,
but I focus my attention on what you are saying;
They're bland as a bucket of lard,
while I dance to the tune of your revelation.

My troubles turned out all for the best—
they forced me to learn from your textbook.
Truth from your mouth means more to me
than striking it rich in a gold mine.

104 Oh, how I love all you've revealed;
I reverently ponder it all the day long.
Your commands give me an edge on my enemies;
they never become obsolete.
I've even become smarter than my teachers
since I've pondered and absorbed your counsel.
I've become wiser than the wise old sages
simply by doing what you tell me.
I watch my step, avoiding the ditches and ruts of evil
so I can spend all my time keeping your Word.
I never make detours from the route you laid out;
you gave me such good directions.
Your words are so choice, so tasty;
I prefer them to the best home cooking.
With your instruction, I understand life;
that's why I hate false propaganda.

105-112 By your words I can see where I'm going;
they throw a beam of light on my dark path.
I've committed myself and I'll never turn back
from living by your righteous order.

I love your clear-cut revelation.
You're my place of quiet retreat;
I wait for your Word to renew me.
Get out of my life, evildoers,
so I can keep my God's commands.

I'll give total allegiance to your definitions of life.

Yea-Saying God, I love what you command,
I love it better than gold and gemstones;
Yea-Saying God, I honor everything you tell me,
I despise every deceitful detour.

My antagonists are too many to count,
but I don't swerve from the directions you gave.

Even though troubles came down on me hard,
your commands always gave me delight.

I stayed awake all night,
prayerfully pondering your promise.

My soul guards and keeps all your instructions—
oh, how much I love them!
I follow your directions, abide by your counsel;
my life's an open book before you.

What are its qualities and benefits?

Perfect (Ps19:7)Wonderful, pure exceedingly broad, it is sure, right, it is true and righteous altogether, wondrous, fabulous; it is my inheritance, my heritage, my spiritual weapon; life to those that find them, health and medicine to my body; it is the mirror of life, water with which to wash away my sin, guilt and condemnation and curse. It is active, a purifier, a good news,

a compass, God’s Advance Warning System; exceedingly great and precious, settled, established in heaven, boundless, my heritage, dynamic, powerful, lamp unto my feet , light unto my path, sharper than any two-edged sword, dynamic, powerful; it is as silver tried in the furnace, purified seven times; sharper than any two-edged sword; it is active and a purifier- spiritual detergent. Water of life, word of life full of wisdom, full of faith,

spirit and life; the mind of God for you to line your mind and mind your mind.

Rejoicing the heart, enlightening the eyes; keeps me from sin;

gives understanding to the unwise, the simple; converts the soul; it sanctifies, purifies, reveals, guides, makes me wiser than my enemies, revives, makes alive (quickens) , creates, recreates, rejuvenates, comforts; it is rich, sweeter than honey in the honey comb; it is my help; my teacher, satisfies the longing soul;

it is profitable for doctrine

(teaching), for reproof, for correction,

speaks of God’s power, majesty, His loving kindness;

glory, your faithfulness, your righteousness,

for instruction in righteousness ( 2Tim3:16)

the voice of God for His sheep;

Book of the Law, His testimonies

statutes, commandments, His judgements, His precepts

my counsellors; better than thousands of gold and silver;

faithful, quickening, my delight, day or night,

the entrance of which brings light;

Prov4:22

“What you say goes, God,
and stays, as permanent as the heavens.
Your truth never goes out of fashion;
it's as up-to-date as the earth when the sun comes up.
Your Word and truth are dependable as ever;
that's what you ordered—you set the earth going.

inherited your book on living; it's mine forever—
what a gift! And how happy it makes me!
I concentrate on doing exactly what you say—
I always have and always will.

129-136 Every word you give me is a miracle word—
how could I help but obey?

Your words all add up to the sum total: Truth.

(Heb4:12 )source of life MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'"

(Matt4: 4)
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon's scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God's Word. We can't get away from it—no matter what. Message

That's how God's Word vaults across the skies
from sunrise to sunset,
Melting ice, scorching deserts,
warming hearts to faith.

9 The revelation of God is whole
and pulls our lives together.
The signposts of God are clear
and point out the right road.
The life-maps of God are right,
showing the way to joy.
The directions of God are plain
and easy on the eyes.
God's reputation is twenty-four-carat gold,
with a lifetime guarantee.
The decisions of God are accurate
down to the nth degree.

10 God's Word is better than a diamond,
better than a diamond set between emeralds.
You'll like it better than strawberries in spring,
better than red, ripe strawberries.

11-14 There's more: God's Word warns us of danger
and directs us to hidden treasure.

Otherwise how will we find our way?
Or know when we play the fool? Message Ps19

Hebrews 4:12 (Amplified Bible)

12For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the [a]breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

Your promise has been tested through and through,
and I, your servant, love it dearly. Message

Book One (Psalms 1–41)

1 Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.
2 But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.

Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do. New Living

The Way of the Righteous and the End of the Ungodly

1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper. NKJV

How well God must like you— you don't hang out at Sin Saloon, you don't slink along Dead-End Road,
you don't go to Smart-Mouth College.

2-3 Instead you thrill to God's Word,
you chew on Scripture day and night.
You're a tree replanted in Eden,
bearing fresh fruit every month,
Never dropping a leaf,
always in blossom.

Message
BOOK ONE

1BLESSED (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.

2But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.

3And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity ( fruition, full bloom) blossom,)].

Amplified

My prayer concerning your word

Train me to live by your counsel.

65-72 Be good to your servant, God;
be as good as your Word.

Oh, love me—and right now!—hold me tight!
just the way you promised.

Now comfort me so I can live, really live;

your revelation is the tune I dance to.

Festoon me with your finest sayings, God;
teach me your holy rules.

Take my side as you promised; I'll live then for sure.
Don't disappoint all my grand hopes.
Stick with me and I'll be all right;

Break open your words, let the light shine out,
let ordinary people see the meaning.
Mouth open and panting,

Steady my steps with your Word of promise
so nothing malign gets the better of me.
Rescue me from the grip of bad men and women
so I can live life your way.
Smile on me, your servant;
teach me the right way to live.
I cry rivers of tears
because nobody's living by your book!

Take my side and get me out of this;
give me back my life, just as you promised.

169-176 Let my cry come right into your presence, God;
provide me with the insight that comes only from your Word.
Give my request your personal attention,
rescue me on the terms of your promise.

And let your promises ring from my tongue;
every order you've given is right.
Put your hand out and steady me
since I've chosen to live by your counsel.
I'm homesick, God, for your salvation;
I love it when you show yourself!
Invigorate my soul so I can praise you well,
use your decrees to put iron in my soul.
And should I wander off like a lost sheep—seek me!
I'll recognize the sound of your voice.

His Words Delivers the goods in prayer
Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

7-11"Don't bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This isn't a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we're in. If your child asks for bread, do you trick him with sawdust? If he asks for fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? As bad as you are, you wouldn't think of such a thing. You're at least decent to your own children. So don't you think the God who conceived you in love will be even better? Message
Matthew 7:7 (GOD’S WORD Translation)

The Power of Prayer—Luke 11:5–13

7“Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you.
John 15:7 (New King James Version)

7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

[b]Matt7:7 John 15:7 (New International Version - UK)

7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.

(John15:7,
1 John 5:14-15 (New King James Version)

Confidence and Compassion in Prayer

14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. NKJv

And how bold and free we then become in his presence, freely asking according to his will, sure that he's listening. And if we're confident that he's listening, we know that what we've asked for is as good as ours.

Message
1 John 5:14-15 (Contemporary English Version)

14We are certain that God will hear our prayers when we ask for what pleases him. 15And if we know that God listens when we pray, we are sure that our prayers have already been answered.
1 John 5:14-15 (New Living Translation)

14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. 15 And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.

1John5:14)

God has regard for his word

18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might[a] have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. nkjv

by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. niv

So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. Living trans

When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee—God can't break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable.

18-20We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go. It's an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God where Jesus, running on ahead of us, has taken up his permanent post as high priest for us, in the order of Melchizedek. message

Heb6:18, Isaiah 55:10-11 (GOD’S WORD Translation)

10“Rain and snow come down from the sky.
They do not go back again until they water the earth.
They make it sprout and grow
so that it produces seed for farmers
and food for people to eat.
11My word, which comes from my mouth, is like the rain and snow.
It will not come back to me without results,
but it will accomplish whatever I want
and achieve whatever I send it to do.”

Isa55:10-11, Isaiah 40:8 (GOD’S WORD Translation)

8Grass dries up,
and flowers wither,
but the word of our God will last forever.”

12Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.
Jeremiah 1:12 (GOD’S WORD Translation)

Jeremiah 1:12 (American Standard Version)

12 Then said Jehovah unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I watch over my word to perform it.

Psalm 138:2 (Amplified Bible)

2I will worship toward Your holy temple and praise Your name for Your loving-kindness and for Your truth and faithfulness; for You have exalted above all else Your name and Your word and You have magnified Your word above all Your name!
Psalm 138:2 (New King James Version)

2 I will worship toward Your holy temple,
And praise Your name
For Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

2I will bow down (A)toward Your holy temple
And (B)give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
For You have (C)magnified Your word according to all Your name.
Psalm 138:2 (The Message)

Psalm 138

A David Psalm

1-3 Thank you! Everything in me says "Thank you!" Angels listen as I sing my thanks.
I kneel in worship facing your holy temple
and say it again: "Thank you!"
Thank you for your love,
thank you for your faithfulness;
Most holy is your name,
most holy is your Word.
The moment I called out, you stepped in;
you made my life large with strength.
