If you are looking for Jabez …()

Jabez looked at the covenant
Then he looked at his life.
What he saw was distressing, detestable
Disturbing, dispiriting, despairing
Demonic, dire, doom, depressing,
Despicable, irreconcilable
All his life he has sorrow, pain
And was ever spreading it
Wherever he went

His friends avoided him.
They took cover when they saw him coming
Not knowing he had seen them.
He knew why they were avoiding him.

Who wants the sorrow or pain oozing out of Jabez?
Do we not have enough on our plates?

He knew he was an accident
Waiting to happen; a time bomb
If he visited you, your house could catch fire;
If you gave him a lift you could be arrested
Or your car could blow up.

He had seen it happen many times
And he secretly prayed that the
friend would not link
The calamity to his presence

But soon the secret was known
And that was the end of getting
a lift or favour from that friend.
In fact some friends went as far as
Warning common unsuspecting friends:
‘Stay away from Jabez
If you don’t want sorrow galore.’

And so suddenly he would notice a change of
attitude from a close friend
Until he hardly had any friends left.

How did this come to be?
Good question.
It came from his name given in faith by a dying mother.
O how she went through hell while giving birth to him!
And so before she gave up the ghost
The nurses tried encourage her that she had a baby boy
And to persevere and live for him
But she was passing out fast. It was no comfort to her.
This son had ripped her so bad, beyond repairs, she thought.

They kept encouraging to her to live for the boy,
But they discovered they were facing a losing battle
And time was running out fast
Then they tried to coax a name out of her.

And in a last gasp of breath before dying she sputtered ‘Jabez!’
Son of Sorrow, dispenser of pain, harbinger of shame
Despair, box of trouble, time bomb, loathsome,
And this sealed the boy’s faith.

What does that tell us?

The wishes or declarations of a dying parent is powerful
It also tells us about he power of words.

The word of God says:
The power of life and death
is in the tongue. (Pro18:21)
She condemned the boy with her words
And became it like a monkey on his shoulder
And wherever he went, he caused pain and received pain.

He carried this monkey for so long until he was getting old
Nothing good was happening for him,
If any good came, it was very temporary, transient, ephemeral
Quickly it disappear, evaporated, leaving him more miserable
Yet longing and longing for it to no avail
Till he wished the good did not come in the first place.
As if it came to mock him. How pathetic!

He was living in Beggarly Alley, Grumble Valley
And Barely-Get -Along Street
His contemporaries were far, far ahead of him.
He was a prisoner, in a dungeon, in chains
And causing pain here and there,
In a train that was doomed for destruction.

Well, there came a Day when Jabez
Said to himself, ( like the prodigal son)
‘I can’t take this any longer! Like Gideon
After his encounter with God,
Doing the unthinkable like Esther,
Putting life on the line and approaching
The king to save her people,
Like Nehemiah, mourning
Even though he was in the king’s presence)

‘What have I done to deserve this?
Why I am so riddled, oppressed by evil?
Why am I a dispenser of pain and sorrow?
Why am I an accident waiting to happen?
Why should I continue to live a life
Where I am dreaded like an evil disease
treated like a leper? ’Run! Here he comes!
Avoided like a plague, like an infectious disease?
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Who is going to help me? ( Rom7)

‘I will appeal to the God of Israel
The covenant we have with Him
Promises, protection, provision
Healing, health, wealth
Prosperity, promotion.
But these are a far cry from my experience!

‘Ah Lord God! Are You a man that You should lie?
Are You the son of man that You should repent
Are You not the same, yesterday today and forever?
And do You not decree and it stands?

‘Is My God not all-powerful?
Does He not have the final word concerning me?

But all I have had is a shadow of the blessing.

Where is the substance? Where is the reality?
Enough is Enough! Away with shadow!
I want to see and experience the substance.

O God of Israel.
‘O that You will bless me INDEED!
O that there will be a tangible,
Discernible, undeniable
Manifestation of the blessings I read about
in the Testament of the Covenant.
I am done with, fed up of, widow shopping.
I have been confessing the positive
But it is not productive
I sense the is a Goliath standing somewhere
Taunting me, trying me and tormenting me.

‘Enlarge my Coast, O God!’
O that You will enlarge my coast
I am boxed in, contained, restricted
Imprisoned, enslaved, in shackles.

O that Your hand will be upon me,
Like it was on Joseph, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob
Like it was on David who understood
His covenant relationship with you
And brought down Man-Mountain Goliath.
My God, You made good the promise
as David bragged about his covenant standing with You.

You did something spectacular
As David used his sling and stone;
Goliath fell flat on his face
And David used his sword to cut off his head.
Lights were turned on in Israel after
Unrelenting darkness lasting forty days
And humiliation of Your people.

I do the same today!

O that this Goliath in my life will
fall and bite the dust for good
Let Your blessing be seen, My God.

Keep me from evil
Protect me, O God, from principalities and powers
Who want to eat me alive;
have me for breakfast, put me to shame;
Use me against my family and friends;
Preserve me, mighty God from
Those who want to constantly clothe me with shame,
Make me cause pain, and make me an embarrassment.

My God! deliver me from those
Who want to scupper the destiny
You foreordained for me-to bring a great gain,
Yield a mammoth divided for your Kingdom,
O God, preserve me, provide for me, protect me,
Help me to serve my generation and not cause pain.
You called me to be blessed to be a blessing
I don’t want to be a dispenser of the curse any longer.

And God granted him his desire, his prayer
And wiped his tears, dispelled his fears.
His table was turned for good,
And he became a bread basket
A dispenser of joy, blessing, beauty
Confidence, faith, wisdom of the Kingdom.
The Kingdom of God had come!

Have you suffered a similar shipwreck of faith,
Where your experience is a far cry
from the Covenant Blessing?

First of all, are you born again?
Covenant blessing are for those who are
Joined in that agreement by being born into the family
Are you part of the family?
You can be if you are not
It is futile to claim the Promise before then Ps50:16-17
May be you are sure of your salvation but still
Trusting God for a long time in an area and yet
Bereft of the good things promised in His word?
Does the ‘exceeding great and precious promises’
Seem like they are mocking you?
Are you forever window shopping?

Is Goliath daring you?
Despite the covenant you have with God
Are you suffering intimidation and deprivation
Because of your lack of knowledge?
Is your exercise of faith not working?

Have you come to a wall and for so long?
Is the promise of the end of your captivity
Still held in abeyance, despite the expiration
Of your ‘Babylonian captivity’ as prophesied?
Are the prophesies and dreams you have received
About greatness turned into a nightmare?

Have you checked the Book to confirm recently?
Does it call for drastic action like Daniel,
Esther, Nehemiah or Jehoshaphat?

Is this what Jesus referred to as
‘This Kind’ cometh not but by prayer and fasting?’
What is the Lord saying to YOU Now!

I don’t know about you
But I make no bones about admitting that
This word applies to me and very much so.
I have made my discovery
Sought the face of the Lord
Prayed my prayers and have a conviction
That my bonds are broken

The prison door is open
Goliath has fallen
Glory be to God!

May you receive
Insight as the Holy Spirit
Speaks to you as to what too do
In your case about that
Long-running Issue, and Battle
With the Goliath, in that area.
Amen .

If you are looking for Jabez,
look no further!
But God has turned
This Son of Sorrow
Into a son of sweetness!
God has turned this Bringer of Pain
Into a Harbinger of Gain!

.

Jabez’s Song Hear my Voice!
Ch;
O Heaven hear my voice as I sing
O Earth, listen as I praise my King
I waited and waited for so long
Now my God has given me a song.

They said to me , “For you there just no hope.
Commit suicide I have a rope”
But today I see a great hope
Coming down from the great God of Hope.

Praise the Lord!
Ch:
I bow this day at the throne of Grace
See great mercy on His face
Joy I receive in place of mourning
Weeping will now give way to singing.

(Praise the Lord!)
!

Like a bird in a snare I am free
Like a prisoner in chains I am free
I see the Wind of Change from the Holy One
Thank You, O God, for Your Son.

(
Praise the Lord )
Ch:
It took so long but…
Now my God has given me a song
A song that will be long
(but now my God has given me a song)

Weeping endured for the night but..
(but now my God has given me a song)

Great is His faithfulness
He has burst my bonds
Broken the snare
And I am set free for freedom
Set free to serve Him
Set free to praise Him
Glory be to my God!
Heaven hear my voice
Earth, listen as I praise my King…

The bond is broken
Because God has spoken
Goliath has fallen
And the prison is open.

The snare is snapped
And captivity capped
Jubilee has come
God’s Kingdom has come.

Covenant cannot be altered
Every delay is deterred
The will of God must prosper
The blood speaks better.

9 Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” 10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request 1Chr4:9-10

For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. Ps30:5
for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes Prov24:16
The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. Ps18:5
Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence Ps91:3
We have escaped like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped Ps127:4
16 But to the wicked person, God says:
“What right have you to recite my laws
or take my covenant on your lips?
17 You hate my instruction
and cast my words behind you.Ps50:16-17

Sam17, Jer29::9-13, Matt17:21-24
Dan9 Dan10, 2Chro20, 1Chr12:32, Esth4:14

May you seek His face and
Receive revelation
And deliverance and promotion.
