Olympic Series: the Race of Grace 1: Preparation

Preparation is essential.
You must be decisive
About the event to do.
You must register to be in it;
Have the right mental attitude;
Deny yourself and train;
Whether it rains or shines.
Put your body under.
Put your goal in mind.
Have partners to spur you on;
Train with you, give you feedbacks.
You must make up your mind to win.

You cannot ignore the alarm
When it beckons on you.
You must sacrifice and rise
Even if the body complains.
There are places you must not go.
There are diets you must forgo.
You must always see the goal.
Ensure you have self-control.
You cannot play when you should pay
The price you know you need to pay.

The same goes for the race of grace,
Which surpasses the Olympics.
Because we run for an incorruptible crown
In place of the crown that will perish;
And so discipline is essential too.
We cannot play in the devil’s vineyard,
Or encumber ourselves with weights
That will easily beset us, trip us up.
We must eat a balanced diet
Of the word which is spirit and life.

24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.
25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.
26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.
27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. 1Cor9:24-27

When London won the bid to stage the 30th Olympiad, it was a moment to cherish. There was euphoria in the air. We were walking on the air with excitement, proud to have beaten off other strong contenders like Paris.

Despite the great preparation for the bid, on arrival back home, it dawned on the Olympic organisers that it is one thing to win a bid but quite another to put all the requirements in place for the greatest and most successful show on earth.

A lot of infrastructure was required. Sponsors have to be sort and secured. The government has to deny itself in many areas to cough out substantial funds to back the organisers and to satisfy the IOC that we were equal to the task.

There were security concerns that have to be adequately addressed.

Home-grown talents have to be sort and trained so lift the face of the host and this will take a lot of efforts investment and sacrifice.

Some workers saw it as an opportunity to milk the situation to their advantage which raised the cost of staging the games.

There were special Olympic traffic lanes to ensure that key personnel and athletes are not held up in traffic.

Organisers also have to think ahead of the legacy they will leave behind after the games. So preparation has to be comprehensive.

Poor preparation precedes poor performance
Proper preparation procures proficient performance
Preclude proper preparation and you have prepared to fail.
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

As with the Olympics
So it is in life.
