John 10:34-38

KJV(i) 34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

John 10:34-38

New International Version (NIV)

34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”'? 35 If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? 37 Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father. 38 But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

34 He is quoting Ps 82:6 Psalms was one of the writings the last part of the Jewish bible the Sadducees may have not accepted it but the Pharisees consider it law bounding as any other book.

35 Because the word of God refers to them as gods it is true of course scripture has gods in lowercase referring to not the true God. They may have been viewed by some in a way where they themselves were feared by people as gods instead of the people fearing God. Egypt may have considered Moses to be a god, this does not mean he tried to be but it is how they viewed him. If it is in scripture it is true. Scripture comes from God and He is not a liar so His word then is true, which also means the scriptures are true or unbroken

36 Jesus refers to Himself; He is the One who was set apart from the Father. This was the plan for Jesus to come to the world only by Him doing this and dying for us would we have hope of glory thru Him. Jesus is not trying to have them question there faith but show them the truth about faith that they were not truly in faith.

37 Jesus did everything that the Father wanted Him to do; Jesus did not do anything that the Father would not do either. Jesus lived the will of the father. Jesus is telling them not to believe based on His words but by the things He had already done. Jesus already did all He needs to do we need to believe Him based off of what He did and then trust that He is. It is not a completely blind faith because there is reason to follow after Him.

38 The Pharisees could not accept the miracles so they could not see who Jesus truly was or what He truly could do. If we can not accept what He has done for us most likely we will not be able to accept Him.
