John 9:39-41

King James Version (KJV)

39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?

41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

John 9:39-41

Revised Standard Version (RSV)

39 Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind.” 40 Some of the Pharisees near him heard this, and they said to him, “Are we also blind?” 41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

39 Jesus is the great and just judge. Jesus also gave grace by dying but those who do not receive Him chose to face Him at judgment day. Those who thought they followed God did not accept Jesus and did not see as He saw them. There were some who thought they lived right but saw the truth by Jesus but these were few. Those who did not think they were righteous, He made righteous. Jesus’ greatest and most loyal followers were those who were viewed as sinners.

40 There may have been many Pharisees who followed Jesus at this time which explains why they met in secret to accuse Him. The Pharisees were educated people and could understand many things but many of them could not accept the truth about Jesus.

41 Those that do not see there sins are not held to the same standard as those who see there sins and continue to do them, both though without Christ will be judged. We should confess our sins to the Lord and turn from them and no longer feel guilt about them because Jesus bore our sins and forgave us of them already.
