John 10:1-6

King James Version (KJV)

10 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

6 This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.

John 10:1-6

Revised Standard Version (RSV)

Jesus the Good Shepherd

10 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber; 2 but he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens; the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 This figure Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

1 The Pharisees did not want to do things that Jesus said they continued down the same path and His coming did not change anything for them even though He would change the world. The Pharisees tried to profit off the scriptures and use them to make themselves superior than others.

2 Jesus would enter this gate and would lead his sheep or church thru this gate being salvation. The Pharisees tried to find salvation without Him but without Him is can not be found.

3 The Father is the gate keeper and the gate also can be viewed as the gate in heaven. Those that follow Him know His voice and follow His word. Jesus knows all that receive Him on a personally level and knows more about us than we know our selves. We are to follow after Jesus like sheep following the shepherd. Jesus is the good Shepherd.

4 The sheep follow the shepherd where ever he leads we are to follow Jesus where ever
He leads us and have faith in Him. The Shepherd will take care of us His sheep.

5 Sheep will not follow after anyone other than the shepherd, we should become trained like these sheep so we do not follower after the shepherds of this world and fall into a false teaching. When we know our Shepherd we are less likely to follow after another shepherd.

6 The Pharisees were smart people but did not understand. Jesus was referring to their false teaching and how His true disciples would not follow after them but follow after Him, their Shepherd.
