John 10:33

King James Version (KJV)

33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

John 10:33

New International Version (NIV)
33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

The people had to have reason to stone someone. Jesus by law had a right to some sort of trial which by bending the rules they may have considered Him asking them why they wanted to stone Him and them responding being His trial. They used God’s law to do what they wanted and made it said what they wanted it to. Blasphemy is claiming to be or putting yourself on them same level as God. Jesus was Go and they refused to accept Him as God this did not mean He committed blasphemy but meant they refused to accept Him.
