The Hammer Fell
The Hammer Fell
He looked into my eyes as I drew back to drive the nail
I saw no hatred on his face even as the hammer fell
Then he watched me move and take hold of his other arm
And he opened up his fingers as though there was no harm
He nodded his head at me as I placed the nail in his hand
And he slowly closed his eyes as the hammer fell again
His countenance was so perfect, so pure and so sweet
My stomach grew queasy as I prepared to nail his feet
He looked into my eyes again as I looked up from the nail
And shamefully I lowered my head as the hammer fell
Proclaimed as, King of the Jews, and crowned with thorns
I hung him on that wooden cross; whipped, beaten and torn
He looked into my eyes the day I stood before his throne
And he opened up his nail scared hands and said welcome home
