Seventh Day Adventist Deny:

  • The doctrine of predestination
  • Baptism by sprinkling
  • Infant baptism
  • The immortality of the soul
  • The eternity of hell fire
  • Any use of alcohol (as a drink) or tobacco

Unbiblical Teachings

  • Our sins will ultimately be placed on Satan - The Great Controversy, p. 422, 485.
  • Jesus is Michael the Archangel.
  • Worship must be done on Saturday (the Sabbath).
  • On October 22, 1844 Jesus entered the second and last phase of his atoning work.
  • Investigative Judgment - the fate of all people will be decided based upon this event in the future.
  • The dead do not exist anymore -- soul sleep.
  • The wicked are annihilated.
  • Ellen G. White, the "founder" of Seventh Day Adventism, was a messenger from God gifted with the spirit of prophecy.
  • There is a sanctuary in heaven where Jesus carries out his mediatorial work.

The History of the Seventh Day Adventist Church

Modern Seventh Day Adventism traces its origins back to the early 1800's to Mr. William Miller (1782-1849) of Low Hampton, New York. Mr. Miller had converted from deism to Christianity in 1816 and became a Baptist. He was an avid reader, dedicated to God's word, and sought to reconcile apparent biblical difficulties raised by deists. He relied heavily on the Cruden's Concordance in his studies and developed a focus on the imminent return of Jesus. He began preaching at the age of 50.

The time was right. America was hot with discussions on the return of Christ. As a result, many thousands (called Millerites) accepted his idea that Jesus would return in the year covering 1843-1844. He had arrived at this date based upon a study of Daniel 8:14 which says, "And he said to me, "For 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the holy place will be properly restored." He interpreted the 2300 evenings and mornings to be years and counted forward from 457 BC when the commandment to rebuild Jerusalem was given (Dan. 9:24-25).1 When his initial predictions failed, he adjusted his findings to conclude that Jesus would return on March 21, 1844 and then later on October 22, 1844. After these too failed, Miller quit promoting his ideas on Jesus' return and the "Millerites" broke up.

On the morning following the "Great Disappointment" of October 22, 1844, a Mr. Hiram Edson claimed to have seen a vision. He said that he saw Jesus standing at the altar of heaven and concluded that Miller had been right about the time, but wrong about the place. In other words, Jesus' return was not to earth, but a move into the heavenly sanctuary as is referenced in Heb. 8:1-2.

Mr. Joseph Bates (1792-1872), a retired sea captain and a convert to "Millerism" then began to promote the idea of Jesus moving into the heavenly sanctuary. He published a pamphlet which greatly influenced James (1821-1881) and Ellen White (1827-1915). It is these three who were the driving force behind the SDA movement.

Numerous reports state that Ellen G. White (1827-1915) saw visions from an early age. Such was the case shortly after the Great Disappointment. Mrs. White claimed to see in a vision of a narrow path where an angel was guiding Adventists. Subsequent visions resulted in interpretations of the three angels in Rev. 14:6-11 as being 1843-1844 as the hour of God's judgment; the fall of Babylon signified by Adventists leaving various churches, and admonitions against Sunday worship.

  • 1849 - First paper, the Present Truth, was printed in Middletown, Conn.
  • 1850 - First issue of the Second Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, printed in Paris, Maine.
  • 1860 - Name of Seventh-day Adventist adopted by the church.
  • 1863 - First General Conference and formation of the SDA church on May 21, 1863.
  • 1871 - First college opened which became Andrews University.
  • 1871 - J. N. Andrews sent to Switzerland as a missionary.
  • 1885 - Missionary work begun in Australia.
  • 1915 - Ellen G. White dies on July 16, at St. Helena, CA.
  • 1941 - Opening of Theological Seminary at Takoma Park.
  • 1942 - Voice of Prophecy radio show begins broadcasting coast to coast.
  • 1950 - Faith for Today TV show begins.
  • 1955 - SDA membership hits 1 million.
  • 1986 - SDA membership hits 5 million.2

Greetigs friend:
I would like to add a couple of things to your post on this subject . Seventh Day Advententist sabbath runs from sun down Friday to Sun down on Saturday . Outside of worship they are not allowed to do anything out in the community. They only believe in 2 parts of the Holy Trinity. They believe in God the Father and God the Son. They do ot believe in God the Holy Spirit. To them God is not a Spirit. It seems to me that God is Historical and God is future to them , but God is not in the present time for them

What do Seventh Day Adventist believe in? Empty Re: What do Seventh Day Adventist believe in?

Post  dove Tue 16 Sep 2008, 6:14 pm

Emerging in 1930 from within the Seventh-day Adventist denomination (“the church of the Laodiceans”), the Davidian Association has ever been committed to the prophetic work (predicted in Isaiah 52:1) of preparing the Laodicean church, the last with “the tares” among “the wheat,” for the final proclamation of the gospel “in all the world.” Matt. 24:14.

This Association, in common with the Seventh-day Adventist denomination, holds “certain fundamental beliefs, the principal features of which, together with a portion of the Scriptural references upon which they are based,” are originally summarized as follows:

1. That the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, contain an all-sufficient revelation of His will to men, and are the only unerring rule of faith and practice. 2 Tim. 3:15-17.

2. That the Godhead, or Trinity, consists of the Eternal Father, a personal, spiritual Being, omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, infinite in wisdom and love; the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Eternal Father, through whom all things were created and through whom the salvation of the redeemed hosts will be accomplished; the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, the great regenerating power in the work of redemption. Matt. 28:19.

3. That Jesus Christ is very God, being of the same nature and essence as the Eternal Father. While retaining His divine nature He took upon Himself the nature of the human family, lived on the earth as a man, exemplified in His life as our Example the principles of righteousness, attested His relationship to God by many mighty miracles, died for our sins on the cross, was raised from the dead, and ascended to the Father, where He ever lives to make intercession for us. John 1:1, 14; Heb. 2:9-18; 8:1, 2; 4:14-16; 7:25.

4. That every person in order to obtain salvation must experience the new birth; that this comprises an entire transformation of life and character by the recreative power of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. John 3:16; Matt. 18:3; Acts 2:37-39.

5. That baptism is an ordinance of the Christian church and should follow repentance and forgiveness of sins. By its observance faith is shown in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. That the proper form of baptism is by immersion. Romans. 6:1-6; Acts 16:30-33.

6. That the will of God as it relates to moral conduct is comprehended in His law of ten commandments; that these are great moral, unchangeable precepts, binding upon all men, in every age. Ex. 20:1-17.

7. That the fourth commandment of this unchangeable law requires the observance of the seventh day Sabbath. This holy institution is at the same time a memorial of creation and a sign of sanctification, a sign of the believer’s rest from his own works of sin, and his entrance into the rest of soul which Jesus promises to those who come to Him. Gen. 2:1-3; Ex. 20:8-11; 31L12-17; Heb. 4:1-10.

8. That the law of ten commandments points out sin, the penalty of which is death. The law can not save the transgressor form his sin, nor impart power to keep Him from sinning. In infinite love and mercy, God provides a way whereby this may be done. He furnishes a substitute, even Christ the Righteous One, to die in man’s stead, making ‘Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.’ 2. Cor. 5:21. That one is justified, not by obedience to the law, but by the grace that is Christ Jesus. By accepting Christ, man is reconciled to God, justified by His blood for the sin by his indwelling life. Thus the gospel becomes ‘the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.’ This experience is wrought by the divine agency of the Holy Spirit, who convinces of sin and leads to the SinBearer, inducting the believer into the new covenant relationship, where the law of God is written on his heart, and through the enabling power of the indwelling Christ, his life is brought into conformity to the divine precepts. The honor and merit of this wonderful transformation belong wholly to Christ. 1 John 3:4; Romans 7:7; Eph. 2:8-10; 1 John 2:1,2; Romans 5:8-10; Gal. 2:20; Eph. 3:17; Heb. 8:8-12.

9. That God ‘only hath immortality.’ 1 Tim. 6:15. Mortal man possesses a nature inherently sinful and dying. Eternal life is the gift of God through faith is Christ. Romans 6:23. ‘He that hath the Son hath life.’ 1 John 5:12. Immortality is bestowed upon the righteous dead are raised from the grave and the living righteous translated to meet the Lord. Then it is that those accounted faithful ‘put on immortality.’ 1 Cor. 15:51-55.

10. That the condition of man is death is one of unconsciousness. That all men, good and evil alike, remain in the grave from death to the resurrection. Eccl. 9:5,6; Ps. 146:3, 4; John 5: 28, 29.

11. That there shall be a resurrection both of the just and of the unjust. The resurrection of the just will take place at the second coming of Christ; the resurrection of the unjust will take place a thousand years later, at the close of the millennium. John 5:28, 29; 1 Thess. 4: 13-18; Rev. 20:5-10.

12. That the finally impenitent, including Satan, the author of sin, will, by the fires of the last day be reduced to a state of non-existence becoming as though they had not been, thus purging God’s universe of sin and sinners. Rom. 6:23 Mal. 4:1-3; Rev. 20:9, 10; Obadiah 16.

13. That no prophetic period [meaning prophetic time-setting of the exact date of Christ’s coming] is given in the Bible to reach to the second advent, but that the longest one the 2300 days of Dan. 8:14, terminated in 1844, and brought us to an event called the cleansing of the sanctuary.

14. That the true sanctuary, of which the tabernacle on earth was a type, is the temple of God in Heaven, of which Paul speaks in Hebrews 8 and onward, and of which the Lord Jesus, as our great high priest, is minister; and that the priestly work of our Lord is the antitype of the work of the Jewish priests of the former dispensation; that this heavenly sanctuary is the one to be cleansed at the end of the 2300 days of Dan. 8:14; its cleansing being, as in the type, a work of judgment, beginning with the entrance of Christ as the high priest upon the judgment phase of His ministry in the heavenly sanctuary foreshadowed in the earthly service of cleansing the sanctuary on the day of atonement. This work of judgment in the heavenly sanctuary began in 1844. Its completion will close human probation.

15. That God, in the time of the judgment and in accordance with His uniform dealing with the human family in warning them of coming events vitally affecting their destiny (Amos 3:6, 7), sends forth a proclamation of the approach of the second advent of Christ; that this work is symbolized by the three angels of Revelation 14; and that their three-fold message brings to view a work of reform to prepare a people to meet him at His coming.

16. That the time of the cleansing of the sanctuary, synchronizing with the period of the proclamation of the message of Revelation 14, is a time of investigative judgment, first with reference to the dead, and secondly, with reference to the living. This investigative judgment determines who of the myriads sleeping in the dust of the earth are worthy of a part in the first resurrection, and who of its living multitudes are worthy of translation. 1 Pet. 4:17, 18; Dan. 7:9, 10; Rev. 14:6, 7; Luke 20:35.

17. That the followers of Christ should be a godly people, not adopting the unholy maxims nor conforming to the unrighteous ways of the world, not loving its sinful pleasures nor countenancing its follies. That the believer should recognize his body as the temple of the Holy Spirit, and that therefore he should clothe that body in neat, modest, dignified apparel. Further, that in eating and drinking and in his entire course of conduct he should shape his life as becometh a follower of the meek and lowly Master. Thus the believer will be led to abstain from all intoxicating drinks, tobacco, and other narcotics, and the avoidance of every body-and-soul-defiling habit and practice. Cor. 3:16, 17; 9:25; 10:31; 1 Tim. 2:9, 10; 1 John 2:6.

18. That the divine principle of tithes and offerings for the support of the gospel is an acknowledgment of God’s ownership in our lives, and that we are stewards who must render account to him of all that He has committed to our possession. Lev. 27:30; Mal. 3:8-12; Matt. 23:23; 1 Cor. 9:9-14; 2 Cor. 9:6-15.

19. That God has placed in His church the gifts of the Holy Spirit, as enumerated in 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4. That these gifts operate in harmony with the divine principles of the Bible, and are given for the perfecting of the saints, the work of the ministry the edifying of he body of Christ. Rev. 12:17; ;9:10; 1 Cor. 1:5-7.

20. That the second coming of Christ is the great hope of the church, the grand climax of the gospel and plan of salvation. His coming will be literal, personal, and visible. Many important events will be associated with His return, such as the resurrection of the dead, the destruction of the wicked, the purification of the earth, the reward of the righteous, the establishment of His everlasting kingdom. The almost complete fulfillment of various lines of prophecy, particularly those found in the books of Daniel and the Revelation, with existing conditions in the physical, social, industrial, political, and religious worlds, indicates that Christ’s coming ‘is near, even at the doors.’ The exact time of that event has not been foretold. Believers are exhorted to be ready, for ‘in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of man’ will be revealed. Luke 21:25-27; 17:26-30; John 14:1-3- Acts 1:9-11; Rev. 1:7; Heb. 9:28; James 5:1-8- Joel 3:9-16; 2 Tim. 3:1-5; Dan. 7:27; Matt. 24:36, 44.

21. That the millennial reign of Christ covers the period between the first and the second resurrections, during which time the saints of all ages will live with their blessed Redeemer in Heaven. At the end of the millennium, the Holy City with all the saints will descend to the earth. The wicked, raised in the second resurrection, will go up on the breadth of the earth with Satan at their head to compass the camp of the saints, when fire will come down from God out of Heaven and devour them. In the conflagration which destroys Satan and his host, the earth itself will be regenerated and cleansed from the effects of the curse. Thus the universe of God will be purified from the foul blot of sin. Rev. 20; Zech. 14:1-4; 2 Peter 3 :7- 10.

22. That God will make all things new. The earth, restored to its pristine beauty, will become forever the abode of the saints of the Lord. The promise to Abraham, that through Christ he and his seed should possess the earth throughout the endless ages of eternity, will be fulfilled. The kingdom and dominion and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven will be given to the people of the saints of the Most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him. Christ the Lord, will reign supreme and every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth, and such as are in the sea will ascribe blessing and honor and glory and power unto Him that sitteth upon the throne and unto the Lamb forever and ever. Gen. 13:14-17- Rom. 4:13; Heb. 11:8-16; Matt. 5:5; Isa. 35; Rev. 21:1-7; Dan. 7:27; Rev. 5:13.”--Year Book of the Seventh-day Adventist Denomination, 1940 Edition, pp. 5-8.

Hi Daniel. I am a Seventh-Day Adventist, unless you were ignorant. I'd like to make some modifications of your post because I tend to disagree with some things. I don't think that the bullet points you listed are unbiblical. But to modify some things, worship DOES NOT only have to be done on Saturday. Saturday is the SABBATH. Worship to God can be done anytime, anywhere. The 7th day is just specially consecreted to him. Gen.2:2,3 & Commandment 4. I don't want any misunderstanding on that point.
If you have any questions on why I declare those bullet points that you listed BIBLICAL, we can discuss it. Bible
Concerning the History of Seventh-Day Adventism, I believe William Miller more FOUNDED the church than Ellen White. Second, Christ did not come in 1844 because he wasn't due to come in that time! Miller's error was what constitues the sanctuary. He thought the Earth was the sanctuary and would thus be CLEANSED by fire at the Second Coming of Christ. That was his error. But the change concerning that it was the sanctuary in heaven IS biblical. I say thus because the Bible teaches that. Paul brings it out in Hebrews!
Miller said the 2300 days were years and he was right. The decree to rebuild Jerusalem was in 457 B.C. 2300 years would be 1844. Anyways, I say that it was years because in prophecy times a day=year. Examples throughtout the Bible and Ezekiel 4:6 and Numbers 14:34 bring it out too!
We believe Babylon as used in Revelation 14 refers to the false churches. Those churches who are teaching error. God says, "Come out of her, my people," ---thus referring that the majority of God's people are in Babylon. Babylon falls twice. "Babylon is fallen, is fallen." We believe the first fall is spiritual. Then the second one will be physical! All those who have been deceieved by the leaders will see the truth and withdraw from those churches, literally, but it will be TOO LATE.
God bless!

Do you deny all this and also that Ellen G. White was a messenger of God, do you also deny that Seventh Day Adventist say that worship is to be done on Saturday (Sabbath), do you also deny that Seventh Day Adventist believe that all our sins will be placed on satan? Do you also also deny that Seventh Day Adventist stop its member from use of alcohol and tobacco?

In the life and ministry of Ellen
G White (1827-1915), we see God's promise fulfilled to provide the remnant
church with the "spirit of prophecy." Although Ellen G White did
not claim the title "prophet," we believe she did the work of a
prophet, and more. She said: "My commission embraces the work of a prophet,
but it does not end there" (Selected Messages, Book One,
p 36); "If others call me by that name [prophetess], I have no controversy
with them" (ibid., p 34); "My work includes much more than
this name signifies. I regard myself as a messenger, entrusted by the Lord
with messages for His people" (ibid., p 36). This statement was approved and
voted by the General Conference session in Utrecht, the Netherlands, June
30, 1995.

This is what wikipedia says:

The Seventh-day Adventist (abbreviated "Adventist"[3]) Church is a Christian denomination which is distinguished mainly by its observance of Saturday, the original seventh day of the Judeo-Christian week, as the Sabbath. The denomination grew out of the Millerite movement in the United States during the middle part of the 19th century and was formally established in 1863.[4] Among its founders was Ellen G. White, whose extensive writings are still held in high regard by the church today.

common we are not against any denomination and it is person's personal walk with God but we also not change the history. If Miller made a mistake then the whole foundation of the Adventist Movement is wrong and false.

Here is a list of false prophecies from http://www.bible.ca/7-prophecy-blunders.htm

  1. “I have seen that the 1843 chart (Wm. Miller’s) was directed by the hand of the Lord and that it should not be altered that the figures were as he wanted them.” EARLY WRITINGS p. 64 edition 1882(First Vision 12/1844) “It was just as impossible for them (those that gave up their faith in the 1844 movement) to get on the path again and go to the city, as all the wicked world which God had rejected. They fell all the way along the path one after another,” (Foregoing now deleted) “until we heard the voice of God like many waters, WHICH GAVE US THE DAY AND HOUR OF JESUS’ COMING. The living saints, 144,000 in number, knew and understood the voice, while the wicked thought it was thunder and an earthquake. When God spake the time, he poured on us the Holy Ghost, and our faces began to light up and shine with the glory of God as Moses’ did when he came down from Mount Sinai.” A WORD TO THE LITTLE FLOCK (1847 edition) p. 14
  2. ELLEN FORGETS HOUR PROCLAIMED “I have not the slightest knowledge as to the time spoken by the voice of God. I heard the hour proclaimed, but had no remembrance of that hour after I came out of vision.” SELECTED MESSAGES 1 p. 298 (1889)
  3. ELLEN LOST HER VISIONS “In our frequent change of location in the earlier history of the publishing work, and I have crossed the plains no less than 17 times I lost all trace of the first published works.” .. . “And here I pause to state that any of our people having in their possession a copy of any or all of my first views, as published prior to 1851, will do me a great favor if they will send them to me without delay.” SELECTED MESSAGES 1 p. 60
  4. “It is well known that many were expecting the Lord to come at the 7th month, 1845. That Christ would then come we firmly believed. A few days before the time passed, I was at Fairhaven, and Dartsmouth, Mass, with a message on this point of time. At this time, Ellen was with the band at Carver, Mass, where she saw in vision, that we should be disappointed,” A WORD TO THE LITTLE FLOCK p. 22 by James White 1847
  5. E. G. White prophesied the world would end in 1843, 1844, 1845 & 1851: “Now time is almost finished, (1851) and what we have been 6 years in learning they will have to learn in months.” EARLY WRITINGS p. 57
  6. “For a time after the disappointment in 1844, I did hold, in common with the advent body, that the door of mercy was then forever closed to the world . . . I was shown in vision, and I still believe, that there was a shut door in 1844.” SELECTED MESSAGES 1 p. 63
  7. “I saw the state of the different churches since the second angel proclaimed their fall. (In 1844) They have been growing more and more corrupt . . . Satan has taken full possession of the churches as a body . . . Their professions, their prayers and their exhortations are an
abomination in the sight of GOD.” Spiritual Gifts Vol 1p. 189.
  8. White blames her failed prophecy on the members of the Seventh-day Adventist church! “Thus the work was hindered, and the world was left in darkness. Had the whole Adventist body united upon the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, how widely different would have been our history.” SELECTED MESSAGES, Book 1, p. 299
  9. Concerning some of her “revelations,” Biederwolf, Seventh-Day Adventism, p. 8f “In one of her visions her accompanying angels told her that the time of salvation for all sinners ended in 1844. She now claims the door of mercy is still open…In another vision she discovered that women should wear short dresses with pants and she and her sister
followers dressed this way for eight years. But the ridiculous custom has now been abandoned….”
  10. The following is a glimpse at some other peculiar teachings of Mrs. White which shows what she believed God to be instructing in matters of diet:
  11. “You have used the fat of animals, which God in his word expressly forbids” page 61).
  12. “Cheese should never be introduced into the stomach” (Testimonies to the Church, Vol. 2, page 68).
  13. “It is just as much sin to violate the laws of our being as to break one of the Ten Commandments” ([eating a slice of bacon is as sinful as committing adultery] Testimonies to the Church, Vol. 2, page 70).
  14. “The use of swine’s flesh is contrary to his express commandments” (Testimonies to the Church, Vol. 2, page 96).
  15. She also affirms that her “visits” to heaven were easily made because after having left there during one of her visits an angel “handed me a green cord coiled up closely. This he directed me to place next to my heart, and when I wished to see Jesus, take from my bosom and stretch it to the utmost. He cautioned me not to let it remain coiled for any length of time lest it should become knotted and difficult to straighten.”
  16. Quoting further from ‘Early Writings’ (pp. 258-261) we find Mrs. White claimed that the teaching that Christ moved into the most holy place of the heavenly sanctuary in 1844 was the “third angel’s message”, and then she declares, Woe to him who shall move a block or
stir a pin of these messages.” She said further that those who reject her interpretation of the “third angel’s message” were “fighting against God” and “they offered up their useless prayer to the apartment which Jesus (Yeshua) has left, and Satan, pleased with the deception, assumes a religious character, and leads the minds of these professed
Christians to himself working with his power, his signs and lying wonders to fasten them in his snare.” From the foregoing statements of Mrs. White we find that all one needs to do is to disbelieve her interpretations of the 1844 move in the Heavenly Sanctuary and Satan
immediately “fastens them in his snare” and they are hopelessly deceived. This statement is so radical and obviously untrue that even the S.D.A.’s do not believe it any more. Yet look at what White said again!
  17. “I was shown the company present at the Conference. Said the angel: Some food for worms, some subject to the last plagues, some will be alive and remain upon the earth to be translated at the coming of Jesus’” (Vol. 1, p. 131). NOTE: This statement was made in 1856 and every one present in that meeting is now dead. Obviously, this was a false prophecy. Some S.D.A.’s, in trying to extricate themselves from the dilemma of this false statement, have argued that had God’s people been faithful the Lord would have come long ago. But this excuse will not hold water, because God knew ahead of time what would happen. And Mrs. White made no conditions for the fulfillment of her prophecy. Her statement is plain and to the point.
  18. “Thousands have been induced to enlist with the understanding that this war to exterminate slavery, but now that they are fixed, they find that they have been deceived, that the object of this war is not to abolish slavery, but to preserve it” Vol. 1, pp. 254, 258). We know now that the Civil War in the USA did indeed abolish slavery. Mrs. White was wrong.
  19. “This nation will yet be humbled into the dust. England is studying whether it is best to take advantage of the present weak condition of our nation and venture to make war on her…When England does declare war, all nations will have one interest of their own to serve, and there will be general war, general confusion”(Vol.1 p.259). NOTE: This
was a FALSE prophecy. England did not declare war on the U.S.A.
  20. “Eggs should not be placed upon your table. They are an injury to your children” (Vol. 2, p. 400). “We bare positive testimony against tobacco, rich cakes, spirituous liquors, snuff, tea, coffee, flesh meats, butter, spice, mince pies…” (Vol. 3, p. 21).”Children are
allowed to eat flesh meats, spices, butter, cheese, pork, rich pastry…These things do their work of deranging the stomach” (Vol. 3, p.136). Mrs. White places “meat, butter and cheese” in the same category as tobacco, liquor, etc. This, is contrary to the Bible for Jesus
Himself ate fish (Luke 24:41-43). In John 21:9-12 we find that Jesus Himself prepared flesh meat and said to His disciples, “Come and eat.” The Bible tells us that Jesus ate butter (Isaiah 7:15) Mrs. White said, “Do not eat” but Jesus said, “Come and dine”. Paul said, “In the latter times some shall depart from the faith…commanding to abstain from meats which God had created to be received” (1 Timothy 4:3).The Bible declares that to teach to abstain from meats is a “departing from the faith”.
  21. “Soon we heard the voice of God like many waters which gave us the day and hour of Jesus coming…When God spoke the time, He poured upon us the Holy Spirit” (Vol. 1 p. 59). In this reference Mrs. White claims that the Lord gave her the day and hour of His coming. In Matthew’s 24:36 Jesus said, “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the angels in heaven, but my Father only.” And, of course, we know today she was wrong because Jesus did not come when she expected Him.
  22. Next we find that Mrs. White claimed that she was one of the 144,000 who would be living when Jesus comes. Here is the question: “Then Jesus’ silver trumpet sounded, as He descended on the cloud, wrapped in saints, then raised His eyes and hands to heaven, and cried, ‘Awake! Awake! Awake! ye that sleep in the dust and arise!’ Then there was almighty earthquake. The graves opened, and the dead came up clothed with immortality. The 144,000 shouted Alleluia! as they recognized their friends whom had been torn from them by death, and in the same moment we were changed” (Vol. 1, p.60). Mrs. White was mistaken again for she died in 1915 and therefore the vision was false. She was also wrong in stating that there would be only 144,000 “living saints” at the hour of Jesus’ coming (p. 59). The Bible says they would be without number Revelation 7:9.

Part II

  1. Now wish to refer the reader to quotations from Mrs. White’s book entitled “Early Writings” and show some of the errors and contradictions found therein. On page 11 she says, “In 1842 I constantly attended the second advent meetings in Portland, Maine, and
fully believed that the Lord was coming.” Then she describes, “What a fullness I enjoyed through believing that the Lord was coming. Inexpressible love for Jesus filled my soul. Wave after wave of glory rolled over me, until my body grew stiff…I remained in this state of body and mind a long time” (p.12). NOTE: Her joy was based upon the belief that Jesus was coming back to earth in 1844. This proved to be a false belief.
  2. When Jesus did not come in 1844 as Mrs. White believed, she then said that “the 1843 chart was directed by the hand of the Lord and that it should not be altered, that the figures were as He wanted them, that his hand was over and hid a mistake in some of the figures so that none could see it, until His hand was removed” (Early Writings, p.74).
  3. On pages 42-45 (Early Writings) Mrs. White describes a closing of a door in the holy place of the heavenly sanctuary, and an opening in the most holy place (in 1844), that the “midnight cry” was finished at the seventh month 1844, (see p. 43), that then was the “sealing time”, and that the time for salvation for sinners had passed (p.45). All the
above statements have been proven false by the fact that Christ did NOT return to earth in 1844. The “midnight cry” WAS NOT FINISHED IN 1844, FOR THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT HE DID THIS AT HIS ASCENSION (SEE HEBREWS 6:19; 9:24). The time for the salvation of sinners did NOT pass in 1844. If it did WE ARE TOAST TODAY!
  4. When the Advent people and Mrs. White were disappointed in 1844 because Jesus did not come they revised their interpretation of certain prophecies and concluded that they were wrong in their figures that Jesus would come in the spring of 1844, but that the correct time would be on the seventh month of 1850. Here is what Mrs. White said, “Time is almost finished”, (E.W.,p. 64). “Said the angel ‘Deny self, ye must step fast.’ Some of us have had the time to get the truth and to advance step by step…But now TIME IS ALMOST FINISHED, and what we have been years learning they will have to lean IN A FEW MONTHS” (E.W.,p.67). “Some are looking too far off for the coming of the Lord.
Time has continued a few years longer than they expected therefore they think it may continue a few years more. And in this way their minds have been led from present truth…I saw the time for Jesus to be in the most holy place WAS NEARLY FINISHED and that time can last but very little longer. The sealing time is very short and will soon be over” (E.W.,p.58).
  5. In the year 1850 Bible scholars were teaching of the return of the Jews to Palestine and the restoration of Jerusalem. Here is what Mrs. White said about this: “I also saw that old Jerusalem would never be built up, and that Satan was doing the utmost to lead the minds of the children of the Lord into these things now in the gathering time, to keep them from throwing their interests into the work of the Lord and to cause them to neglect the necessary preparation”(E.W.,p.75).
  6. Mrs. White taught that Jesus moved from the first apartment of the heavenly sanctuary into the most holy place in 1844, and that those who did not believe this doctrine, Satan answered their prayers when they prayed for the Holy Spirit. Here is her statement: “I saw the Father rise from the throne and in a flaming chariot go into the holy of holies within the vale, and sit down. Then Jesus rose up from the throne and the most of those who bowed down arose with Him. Then a cloudy chariot…came to where Jesus was. He stepped into the chariot and was borne to the throne; they did not know that Jesus had left it.
Satan appeared to be by the throne, trying to carry on the work of God. I saw them look up to the throne and say, ‘Father give us the Spirit.’ Satan would than breathe upon them an unholy influence…”(E.W.,p.55,56). In the first place, the Bible teaches that when Jesus ascended to heaven He went directly into the most holy place or “within the vale”(Hebrews 6:19;9:24), not in 1844. Further, when Jesus died on the cross/tree the vale between the holy and the most holy place was rent in two (Matthew 27:51) which indicated that Christ’s sacrifice made it possible for believers’ prayers to reach the very dwelling place of
GOD, which was in the most holy place, and more particularly, between the cherubim’s above the mercy seat of the ark (Exodus 25:22; Leviticus 16:2). This happened immediately after Christ’s ascension, not in 1844. It is therefore grossly erroneous to teach that Satan answers the prayers of those who do not believe that Jesus moved from one apartment to another in 1844!
  7. Mrs. White taught that in the communion service the sisters should wash the feet of the brethren (E.W.,p.117). Now this is considered so out of order that even S.D.A’s do not follow this instruction.Next, we wish to take another book written by Mrs. White. The
following quotations will be taken from her book ‘THE GREAT CONTROVERSY.’ On page 546, she says, “In 1844, attended by heavenly angels, our great High Priest entered the holy of holies, and there appears in the presence of God, to engage in the last acts of His ministration in behalf of man-to perform the work of investigative judgment, and to MAKE ATONEMENT for all who are shown to be entitled to its benefits.” (Quotes from ‘Great Controversy’, 1927 Ed.) Yet in Hebrews 9:26-28 it says that Christ “put away sin, once, by the sacrifice of Himself” and “Christ was once offered to bear the sins of
many”, and again in Hebrews 10:10, “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL”, and in verse 14, “For by ONE offering He hath perfected forever them that are sanctified.”
  8. Mrs. White teaches that no sins were blotted out until 1844-”at the close of the 2300 days, in 1844, BEGAN the work of investigation AND THE BLOTTING OUT OF SINS” (G.C.,p.552).Mrs. White teaches that an “Investigative Judgment” began in 1844,
that only the cases of the righteous come up for investigation in this judgment and the purpose is “to determine” who are saved. Here is her statement: “In 1844…our High Priest entered the holy of holies… to perform the work of investigative judgment. The only cases considered are those of the professed people of God” (p.546). “All who have ever
taken upon themselves the name of Christ must pass its searching scrutiny”(p.552). “This work of examination of character, of determining who are prepared for the kingdom of God, is that of the Investigative Judgment”(p.489). “There must be an examination of the
books of record to determine who, through repentance of sin and faith in Christ are entitled to the benefits of His atonement”(p.480).
  9. Mrs. White stated further, “The judgment is now passing in the sanctuary above. For many years this work has been in progress. Soon-none know how soon-it will pass to the cases of the living” (p. 556). At this point I wish to quote from another notable S.D.A. writer,
L.H. Christian, in his book, ‘Facing the Crisis’, published in 1937 by the ‘Review and Herald’, that elaborated upon Mrs. White’s statement. “In this work of judgment which began in heaven in 1844, when the 2300 years ended, the eternal faith of every soul will be decided. Beginning, no doubt with Abel, the first to die, one by one the names of all are called and the destiny of each decided…From that decision there will be no appeal. We know not what hour the Lord will come to our name and decide our case forever. It may be today, it may be tomorrow” (p. 283).
  10. On page 481 of ‘Great Controversy’ (1927 ed.) Mrs. White says, “When Christ by virtue of His own blood removes the sins of His people from the heavenly sanctuary at the close of His ministration, He will place them upon Satan, who in execution of the judgment, must bear the final penalty.”
  11. Mrs. White states that the prophecy of Daniel 8:14-”Unto 2300 days, then shall the sanctuary be cleansed,” was fulfilled in 1844 (G.C.,pp.484, 475, 486), that it was the heavenly sanctuary that was cleansed (p. 475), and that it was the confessed sins of God’s people that defiled the heavenly sanctuary (p. 480).
  12. On page 487 (G.C.) Mrs. White says, “The proclamation, ‘Behold the Bridegroom cometh’ in the summer of 1844, led thousands to expect the immediate advent of Christ. At the appointed time the Bridegroom came, not to the earth, as the people expected, but to those Ancient of Days in heaven to the marriage, the reception of His kingdom. They that were ready went in with Him to the marriage, and the door was shut.” Also, “In the summer and autumn of 1844 the proclamation ‘Behold the Bridegroom cometh’ was given. The two classes represented by the wise and foolish virgins were then developed.”
  13. On page 492 (G.C.) Mrs. White says that if anyone rejects her interpretation of the sanctuary service, etc. there is no atonement for that person. Here is her statement: “It is those who by faith follow Jesus in the great work of atonement, who receive the benefits of His mediation in their behalf, while those who REJECT THE LIGHT which brings to view this work of ministration, are not benefited thereby.”
  14. In TESTIMONIES, (Volume 8, p. 117), Mrs White says, “The seal of God is revealed in the observance of the Seventh Day Sabbath.”In TESTIMONIES, Volume 1, pp. 206, 207, Mrs. White says PORK is “nourishing and strengthening food” and rebukes a brother for teaching that it was forbidden food. “They who labor with their hands must nourish their strength to perform this labor, and those also who labor in the Word and doctrine must nourish their strength. They should eat of nourishing and strengthening food to build up their strength…I saw that your views concerning swine’s flesh would prove no injury to you
if you have them to yourself; but in your judgment and opinion you have made this question a test. IF GOD REQUIRES HIS PEOPLE TO ABSTAIN FROM SWINE’S FLESH, He will convict them on the matter. If it is the duty of the church to abstain from swine’s flesh God will discover it to more than two or three.”

Faithfulson,
Ellen White WAS a messenger of God.
Seventh Day Adventism teaches that worship can be done ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. The issue with the Sabbath is that no secular work is to be done on that day and that it is a day especially consecrated to God. It is usually a time of gathering to hear and preach the word of God. Our sins will be placed on Satan. Now don't think our "sins" in that sense are something tangible that we can see. Thats not the case all the time. But the weight of the guilt (our sins) will be placed on Satan. This is displayed in the earthly sanctuary system!! The scapegoat represents Satan. More on that another time.
Concerning Tobacco and Alcohol use, I believe that is the choice of the member. I don't think Adventist leaders should FORCE their members to stop. That is not of God. I'm not saying SDA is right in every aspect. After all, it is what the BIBLE teaches.

Thirsty,
I agree. Ellen White was "AMONG its founders." If you really look into it you'll see that William Miller started it all. If it wasn't for Miller, who's to say the church would be even in existance today? The word "Adventism" IS "looking forward to the Coming."

Hi Dove. Ellen White's writings can seem very contradicting. And there are places where "predictions" have not come to pass. ---But is that to say she is a false prophet. OK, look at this. What about the other things she predicted that have come to pass? Will you throw that away too
Rolling Eyes Some people have a hard time understanding Adventism. They try to falsify its teachings, but how? Its teachings measure up to the Bible. Its not to a particular "denomination" I'm sticking too. Its about WHO or WHAT is teaching truth. This, I have found in adventism. For example, is there a subject that any of you disagree with in Adventism??? I would love to discuss it with you and make it some clear. God bless.

Dear Members

I have to make a request, we are here to understand the Love of Heavenly Father discuss His mercies and loving kindness. I would appreciate that if we do not discuss personalities or denominations. It is although everyone's right to defend what they believe in. I would also request everyone to believe in the Word of God as final authority.

Daniel I do not agree with you because we must warn others of false prophets and preachers. Common herself admitted

Common wrote:Ellen White's writings can seem very contradicting. And there are

she is a false prophet. OK, look at this. What about the other things
she predicted that have come to pass? Will you throw that away too

She also admitted that Miller's prophecy of Jesus Christ returning was miscalculated. If Miller and White were the founders of Adventism, and both of them were wrong then this is the proof they misled many are still they are being misled.

For Common

Why do you keep on asking for discussion, we are in to it. So come with your explanation and defend Adventism with verses from the Bible.

OK, Daniel. I see where you're coming from but I do not believe we are "attacking" denominations. More like, he wants to see if its measuring up with the Bible or not. That is all. So that is what I will show him.
Faithfulson, people keep holding on to Miller's error on 1844 because Christ did not come. Miller was WRONG on that aspect. He then corrected it. ---Christ did not come, he went into the MOST HOLY PLACE of the HEAVENLY SANCTUARY. I will show you that a little later.
Miller, and you know, not all about Miller, we need to look at what the Bible says. First, I will give some background. Lets go to Exodus 25:8. It is here that God brings to Moses that he wants the children of Israel to make Him a sanctuary. (Let us read and study from the KJV). If you read the chapters to follow, you will see how it was constructed and how God wanted it to be.
1. The building-tent (sanctuary) had two apartments, called the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. A veil separated the two. Another name for the Holy Place was the Holy of Holies. Besides that bldg-tent there was an outer court which was "fenced" in with hangings and linen. The entrance was on the eastern end. That is just the outset here that I've gave you.
2. OK, near to the entrance was an altar, the brazen altar of burnt offering. Upon that altar was consumed all the sacrifices made by fire unto God. In the Holy Place was the table of shewbread, the 7-branched candlestick, and the altar of incense. In the Most Holy Place there was the ark which contained the 10 Commandments, a pot with manna in it, and Aaron's rod. There were also two cherubims there with their faces faced towards each other but downward at the ark (the ark was between them).
I gave you that because I wanted you FIRST to see the earthly sanctuary. That is how God wanted it. I AM GETTING SOMEWHERE WITH THIS. More later. God bless.

Dear Common

My point is that we are not judges and this forum is denomination free but this is not a place for false preachers and I do not even tolerate false preaching on this forum. I have no objections if you both want to get in to a discussion. However, I made this request that instead of saying Miller was wrong or Ellen G. White is wrong, why not to discuss something Biblical so that we may all learn from each other as God leads us.

I have Roman Catholics, Presbyterians, Pentecostals, Methodists and many others as members. I believe that it is our personal walk with God and following any denomination will not make Jesus live in us. It our own personal approach that makes Jesus live in us.

God bless you and your family.

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? (1 Corinthians 6:19) Where does God live? In us and He does not need a sanctuary after Jesus came on earth.

But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Heb 9:13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (1 Cor 9:11-14)

Why do you think the Romans destroyed the temple? (This is yet further proof that Jesus is the Messiah. After Jesus died and was raised to life, thus fulfilling the entire sacrificial system, the Romans destroyed the temple. God allowed this to happen because earthly sanctuary was no longer needed. Its purpose had been fulfilled.)

Why do you think God set up the animal sacrifice system here on earth? (This system was a living parable (the lesson calls it a "type") for the death of Jesus. The entire system pointed towards the day when the Messiah (the "antitype) would come and make an atonement for sin. This leaves us with two conclusions. First, it is clear that Jesus is the Messiah. He did exactly what was symbolized by the sacrificial system. Second, modern Judaism has lost its vision of what it was about.)

Post  Raymond Sat 20 Sep 2008, 10:18 pm

I have been a SDA for 25 years. It all started with me and my wife going to see a movie called 'LATE GREAT PLANET EARTH' by Han Lindsay. We had done drugs before going because we thought it was a sci-fi about the end of the world. We came out sober and instead of going home, we went to Safeway we bought a $2 bible. We had one motto in the beginning of our search and it's still our motto today. "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." Isaiah 8:19-21 From that point on, we would talk to anyone about God that cared to (and many that didn’t) but we always stuck to the above text before we would accept what others were saying. It took about 4 years of study with the Holy Spirit as our guide before we committed to a denomination.

I have enjoyed reading and a little sharing on this forum and have seen Dove's posting and considered them insightful.
You, Dove, have committed a very grievous act; you quoted from a web site with doing absolutely no research as to the validity, context of the comments or quotations. How do I know this: because my wife's sister sent us the same garbage with a blistering letter of condemnation. I am not afraid to have my belief challenged; as a matter of fact I encourage it. What I have no tolerance for is drive by smears. If you are going to post such stuff, you had better be ready to defend it through research and discussion.
I challenge any and all, take the fundamental beliefs as outlined in one of your previous posts, research the bible texts, establish where these texts have been misquoted or interpreted incorrectly, discuss with a knowlegable SDA member and draw your own conclusion.

What do Seventh Day Adventist believe in? Empty What do Seventh Day Adventist believe in?

I have been reading this article and all the comments. I have been trying to wrap my brain around all this information and for the lack of a better word, rhetoric. Why is this; such a fiery subject? Shouldn’t we be about the Father’s business? We were not given the Great Commission to argue about rights and rituals among differing denominations of churches or religions. We were commissioned to be ambassadors of Christ, to spread the good news throughout the world.

All of us are going to disagree at one time or another. Are we spending our time wisely? Is there more information we could be posting to help those lost or those in need of rekindling the Holy Spirit. Have we forgotten, this is not about us, it is about God and His will? We need to get religion and self out of the way and this includes denominations, too. All of us will confess that only these or only those will be in Heaven; but we are not God, only He knows the truth; all we can do is try to be within His will. God asks us to do four things read our Bibles, meditate upon the Scriptures, seek His guidance and tell people about Jesus.

I really do not know everyone here and neither do you know me. I do not ask your religion or your denomination. I only know you and meet you through your words. And through your words, I feel your passion, your belief, your love; I even feel Christ. There are people here reading our information; they may be lost, confused, or any number of things; is there not any better information that we could offer? May God’s blessing be upon each one, Irv

Hello All! I am so sorry that it's been so long. I actually couldn't find my way here. Everytime I clicked next to go to the next page on the bottom of the screen, it went to a different subject. Now I'm here.
Daniel, I understand what you are saying, 100%. This IS an encouragement forum and where we can strengthen one another. Amen. I just want to settle a dispute considered what is truth. I am not pinpointing that my denomination is right. True Christianity has NO denominations. Those who are really seeking the truth and spending time with the Lord and growing in him is a TRUE Christain, regardless of denomination. But ignorance needs to be put away and people need to see the truth. What I am presenting is, scriptures from the Bible, to prove the point. I am not trying to be a rebel or vicious or attacking. I don't want anyone to have that impression about me.
I am glad to see another SDA on here. Greetings to you Raymond. God bless you as you endeavor to follow him all the way.
Greetings to the rest of you too. Dove, Irv, Faithfulson, and I think there was one other but I can't get my finger on it. ???. Well God bless that person too.
OK Faithfulson. Amen, God lives IN us. Our body is a temple to him. Yet there is a HEAVENLY sanctuary. Let me finish. The earthly sanctuary pointed to the DEATH of Jesus. He was the Lamb to be slain. Amen. HOWEVER, Jesus' death on the cross was just a partial fulfillment of what the earthly sanctuary was pointing to. Don't forget, there were TWO apartments. Jesus fulfilled the first apartment ministration, as you know. Jesus' death on the cross was the SACRIFICIAL ATONEMENT, not the Final Atonement. Let me continue.
There is a heavenly sanctuary. Paul brings it out in Hebrews 9. Read the whole chapter! Heb.9:11: "But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect TABERNACLE, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building." --This is just one of the many verses in Heb.9 that points to a heavenly sanctuary.
The BIBLE teaches that Christ would go in the Most Holy Place of the Heavenly Sanctuary when the 2300 day/years would finish! The prophecy began in 457 B.C and ended in A.D 1844!!! See Daniel chapters 8 and 9!
Just to establish a point:
1. I know that Jesus is the Messiah.

God bless.
