PICTURE THE DEVIL
Greetings, peace and blessings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Last day I watching Cartoon Network, and on that channel, there was this cute, naughty little devil, dressed in a red body suit with a pony tail and holding a pitchfork. I was saddened with the thought that very young millions of kids must be watching this cartoon and must be enjoying the character of devil. Who knows, how many of them will be following him because of the projected image of devil in the cartoon. This is the image many people have of devil in their memory. Naughty and cute - The Little Devil. Surely we are far, far away from the truth!
Then after getting sick to the point of throwing up, I changed the channel and started to watch a movie channel and Bingo! I found a small child dressed up as the devil in the movie, Dennis the Menace.
Jesus cast out demons many times in the Gospels. Over and over again, we read about Him and His disciples speaking with authority over multiple evil spirits. Why do we read these accounts and praise God for His demonstrations of power, but forget those demonic forces are still active today?
Then one of my colleagues called and I started to discuss the devil's character with her, and said, what is with the world. They are teaching small kids that devil is harmless, naughty and cute. Her response to this really put me down. Although, she is a muslim and a practising one but she said, we have not seen him, maybe he is just like the way shown on TV.
The problem is that we may believe only in what we can see. If that?s true, then we are in serious trouble. Satan works best undercover. If we see a beast racing to attack us, then we will quickly run away. But the enemy?s tactics are different. He hides and hits us slowly and subtly, in such a way that we can?t really see or identify him. Then, he can lead us wherever he wants.
When I look back, it seems as if it was yesterday that I was a kid. Surely time runs by and we cannot stop. Just imagine, what eternity would be?
"Be sober [or, Be clear-headed]; keep watch! Your adversary [the] Devil walks about as a roaring lion seeking someone to devour, whom you [are to] stand up against [or, resist], [being] steadfast in the faith, knowing the same sufferings are being experienced by your brotherhood [fig., the community of believers] in [the] world. [1 Peter 5:8-9] Analytical-Literal Translation
