Betty's Light
Betty’s Light
I called her the Ole Battle Axe and she called me a Nerd;
She would stick out her tongue and then show me the bird.
She was to me, one, of God’s greatest gifts;
And my heart grew heavy as her health began to slip.
The children grew close when it looked her life would end;
Then they drifted apart when she was on the mend.
And the children prayed to God for death’s swift acquittal;
For the doctor had said, “she wouldn’t be leaving this hospital”.
And when salvation was brought up in our conversation;
She had settled it years ago; with angelic jubilation.
Now her health had failed, she had been in the bed for months;
She could not speak now, her responses were only grunts.
Psalms 100, her favorite, was read on that very day;
And God’s beautiful angels came to wisp her away.
Her body looked so twisted in agony and pain;
And the worldly grip released as she entered Heaven’s plain.
I’ve never felt as helpless, viewing the casket in the grave;
Yet, through all her suffering, my soul was to be saved.
Satan had a hold of me; I was smitten in his wrath;
But her love for the Lord had placed me upon God’s path.
We had talked once before about salvations date;
She told me without my understanding “I’ll see you at the gate”.
She knew before I did, a day, I will always remember;For Jesus came into my heart and saved me that December.
