Almost There

Almost There
Dust rises to His ankles as He drags the wooden beam
To the sound of the whip, as it cracks and it stings
In pain and agony, He gasps the morning air
A little bit farther Son; almost there
Stretched out on the cross, lain on the ground
Thud after thud the heavy hammer pounds
Bones being pierced and nailed to the wood
With the smell of sweat and the gush of blood
Again the dust stirs as the wooden cross is raised
Some mourners wail, while others prayed
And His body shook, as the beam bottomed the hole
To jeers from the crowd to save his own soul
With a sponge to His lips; He tastes the rancid gall
A spear into His side, blood and water fall
He had call to The Father, of hope, of despair
A little bit farther Son; almost there
And three days later, He is raised from the dead
All can be forgiven by His precious blood shed
Ransomed by the whispers of God’s love and care
