Preparing to Witness or Waiting to Witness

Give us a watchword for the hour;

A thrilling word; a word of power;

A battle cry; a flaming breath,

A call to conquest or to death;

A word to rouse the church from rest;

To heed the Master’s high behest.

The call is given, ye hosts arise,

The watchword is EVANGELISE!

To fallen men, a dying race;

Make known the gift of gospel grace.

The world that now in darkness lies;

O Church of Christ, EVANGELISE!

As in other worthwhile ventures, preparation is fundamental to effectiveness and success. It is often said, ‘Poor preparation precedes poor performance.’ Also proper preparation precedes proficient performance.

God wants us to represent Him well as His ambassadors. We are His hands feet and voices. We are enjoined in the scripture to ‘study to show yourself approved, a workman that needs not be ashamed, rightly (skilfully) handling the word of truth.’ (2Tim2:15) We are also told to be prepared to tell people the reason for the hope we have. (2Pet.3 :15)

We are co-workers with God, created for good works that God has foreordained for us.

Why Witness?

1. It is a command

2. It is a commission (Matt. 28:19-20, Mark 16:16-18)

3. We are co-workers with God (Eph.2:10), expected to work with Christ (2Cor. 6:1) and work with the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:32)

4. The fields are white and ready for harvest (Matt9:35, Matt13:36-43, Mark 16:15)

5.Many are dying and going to a Christ-less eternity (Rom6:23 )

6.We have a responsibility (Ezek 33:7-8, Isa58:6-12)

7.This is one way we show our gratitude to God for salvation. (John1:40-42, 2 Kings 7:1-16)

8.The Holy Spirit was given to us empower us to witness. (Acts 1:Cool

9.The need is great (John4:35)

10.This is the time to work (2Cor.6:2)

11.We are to work until Jesus comes to judge the works of the saints (2 Cor 5:10)

12.There will be a reward for those who faithfully witness. (1Cor.3:9-15)

13.God’s plan for the local Church is to Come and worship, Go and work (witness) (Acts 8:1-4)

14.He who wins souls is wise (Dan.12:3, Prov.11:30)

15.God has promised to be with us (Matt28:18-20, Mark 16:19-20

16. There is a crown for the faithful witness.

17. The more we witness, the stronger our faith becomes.

Thank you Fenny for the reasons for witnessing the Gospel to others. I strongly believe that there must be a distinct difference between a practising believer and a non-believer. And I totally agree that we have to prepare ourselves to be a co-worker. Although majority of us are no ordained Priests but we are evangelists of God's glory, mercy, kindness and love. Through our actions we can show to non-believers, who our God is and what their god lacks.

God bless you

A very nice article and we must be reminded of our duties as sheep of our shepherd Jesus Christ. God bless you Fenny for reminding us all about our duties and responsibilties as we tend to forget about them in the humdrum of the world.

God bless you

Thank you for the reminder that we are to guide the lost to HIM.

Dear FATHER, we thank you for YOUR WORD. Teach us YOUR WAY so that when we witness for you, that the seed planted, will be in fertile ground. Guide our steps, so that we are lead in the direction YOU would have us go. Guide our hearts, so that we remain focused on YOUR WORD, and guide our eyes and ears, so that we can respond the way in which YOU would have us respond. Let our words be YOUR WORDS. Let YOUR WORD be spoken and received. Give peace to those that we minister to, and grant us GRACE and WISDOM, as we go about YOUR WORK. In JESUS NAME, AMEN.
