How to Witness Part2

Method 2-

Another way to witness is to use what can be referred to as the Roman Road where you focus your key scriptures on the book of Romans.

The Roman Road

The state of Man. All have sinned….Rom.3:23 ,

“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Emphasise “ALL” Identify with them.

Include yourself to make people feel at home; also to avoid being critical, judgmental, proud or adopting a ‘holier than thou attitude.’

Explain the meaning of sin. It’s not just murder, burglary, child abuse or headline grabbers. It includes ignoring God or things about God, disobeying God’s word, lying, ( to get a council flat, increase the benefit you receive from the state, to look good in the eyes of people) cheating, backbiting, gossiping, bearing false witness etc.

Definition: transgression of the law.1John3:4

1John 3:9 whoever is born of God does not make sin a usual practice.

Isa.1:2 Rebellion against God is sin; a wilful act of disobeying the revealed will of God

1John 5:10 Unbelief is sin; when you makes God a liar

Isa53:6 Going your own way; planning your life without consulting God is sin

1John5:17 Unrighteousness – not having a right relationship with God is sin.

Explain that death means separation, alienation, like a gulf between man and God.

Man has tried to bridge that gap with many things like drugs, sex, alcohol, music, partying, ‘pubbing’, religion etc

Explain “coming short of the glory or the glory ”

You come short of the glory. The glory is the sinless state; being at one with God; being in right standing, at peace with God like Adam was before the fall; he had nothing to hide; he was not afraid of God; he was a friend of God; they were intimate.

How did sin come? Adam Ro.5:12

Ro.5:12 “ Therefore as by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men for all have sinned.”

Consequences of sin Ro.5:12 -death

Ro.5:12 “ Therefore as by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men for all have sinned.”

Explain “death” (spiritual death like Adam did the day he fell Gen.2:17, -3:7 loss of innocence, fear- 3:10, -3:12 the blame game, -4:8-9 murder)

Death came through sin

Through one man sin entered the world and through one man salvation- rescuing from the power of sin- came into this world.

Sin brought death, Jesus came to restore right relationship and hence life to those who accept him and what He did on the cross.

Death means eternal separation from God; leaving apart from God, being a bastard, a prodigal, apart from peace, purpose, destiny, being lost; like a fish out of water, like a lost sheep Luke 15 etc

Explain the wages of sin is death. When you work you get paid. Sin is hard labour for wages in the form of death. If you do not accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour, you suffer the penalty of sin- death- separation from God.

The gift of God ..” but the gift of God is eternal life- life in union with God forever and ever and ever.

The Remedy for sin

God provided a way out –the New birth Jesus

Ro6:23,the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Explain “gift” you don’t work for a gift. Use Christmas when people wrap gifts, give gifts. They are usually free. We’re not talking of French gifts with ulterior motives and strings attached

Explain “eternal life”

Ro5:17

Ro.10:9-10 What should man’s response be?

“That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in thine heart that God raised him up from the dead thou shall be saved.”
