Come for the Water-Rondueu
1. RondeauA Rondeau is a French form, 15 lines long, consisting of three stanzas: a quintet, a quatrain, and a sestet with a rhyme scheme as follows: aabba aabR aabbaR. Lines 9 and 15 are short - a refrain (R) consisting of a phrase taken from line one. The other lines are longer (but all of the same metrical length).
Come for the water, come to the Door
Come at once, come for more
Drink the water of life
Drink and have life
Come, my friend, I say, come.
Rise now from the floor
Come into the goodly store
Come as you are, faults and all
Come and be filled, filled to the brim.
Scale the barrier in spite of your sore
Plug right into life’s core
Scale every hindering mountain
For this all –sufficient fountain
Hear my voice, it is you I implore
Just come, come and fulfil your dream.
