MY BROTHER’S KEEPER

A lot of Christians think that a belief in Christ is enough, and good works,

Church attendance and good deeds. But they would sadly be missing the truth.

Genesis 4:9; “Then the Lord said to Cain, “where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t

Know”, he replied. Am I my brother’s keeper?” What does that mean, “my

Brother’s keeper?” In the Hebrew it is SHAMAR. It means to hedge about, to guard,

Protect, attend, take heed, keep, observe, preserve, regard, save and to watch.

Now, how many of us know another Christian brother who has regard for a fellow

Believer’s soul? Best interests? Cain got jealous of Abel and murdered Abel in his

Rage. When God had questioned him, he lied, said he didn’t know. Then defensively

Says, “Am I responsible for my brother?”

YES – We are all responsible for one another.

We are a body – all different but one. Our apostolate is to bring the Good news to

Others. But you don’t stop there. You make a disciple out of him by the teachings

Of Christ as given to us in His Word. We watch by living our faith. 80% of all

Communication is non-verbal. People don’t judge us so much by what we say, but

If our actions match our words.

Not only did Christ tell us to go forth and make disciples but to exhort and

Encourage one another. By our example loving our brothers and sisters we help

Each other put on the mind of Christ. 1 Peter 4:1; “Therefore, since Christ suffered

In his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has

Suffered in his body is done with sin. Vs. 7-8; “The end of all things is near. Therefore

Be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all LOVE ONE

ANOTHER deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins.

God says of us His Body of Believers:

Zechariah 13:9; “I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call

On my name and I will answer them: I will say, ‘They are my people, and they will

Say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”.

We are our brother’s keeper. We are knit together in the bonds of Christ and his

Love. As the song says – “they will know we are Christians by our love.” We win

The world for Christ by loving others, one person at a time. And it is Christ in us

And through us who loves them. We are but yielded vessels for His use.

We are all called to be bearers of the Light. May it shine brightly for the world to

See, so they may ask what is it that we have.

“Love, you cannot keep it unless you give it away.”
