John 8:54-56

King James Version (KJV)

54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

John 8:54-56

Revised Standard Version (RSV)

54 Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is your God. 55 But you have not known him; I know him. If I said, I do not know him, I should be a liar like you; but I do know him and I keep his word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced that he was to see my day; he saw it and was glad.”

54 This is the same for us although many do seek their own glory. God has the true glory and we as believers can be in His glory and not an untrue man made glory. Jesus again speaks the truth by calling God His Father but these people do not understand or accept the truth. We as believers are also glorified by God thru Christ when we receive salvation and we will receive glorified bodies to match one day as well.

55 Jesus lets the people that they do not know God, this is true but the truth often hurts. They did not follow the word only the parts they liked but Jesus taught the truth about the word and how to follow the Word. These men were religious but, religion does not save you. You can only be saved by having a relationship with the Father which comes thru faith in Jesus.

56 Abraham believed God’s promises and looked forward to them. Abraham may not have fully understood God’s plan but it is often hard for us to understand His plan but we just look to be a part of His plan. There was praise in heaven when Jesus came to the earth. All the years of waiting were over. Abraham was an ancestor of the Jews but also Muslims as well as many non Jewish groups. Not all Abraham’s descendents followed after the Lord, in fact many rejected Him.
