My Granddaughter's Prayer
My Granddaughter’s Prayer
Walking down the hallway and passing by the door;
I looked in to see my granddaughter, kneeling on the floor.
Her hands were folded under her chin; her elbows on the bed.
So I stopped to listen, to the words, which she said.
God, my Mom and Dad are divorcing and Dad is moving away.
I need you to help God, for I want my Daddy to stay.
They seem to fight all the time; I hear them from outside.
God, will you help, without taking sides;
I love my Mom and Dad and do not want just one.
God, will you help, to see what can be done.
I could not stand and listen to her any more.
I slipped into my bedroom and quietly closed the door.
On my knees, beside my bed, I began to pray.
Lord, her prayers I lift up to you, in thy will and way.
She comes to visit me and mother, when ever that she wants;
And we talk about everything, even dos and don’ts.
Her parents did divorce, and last night I heard her pray.
I paused for a moment, to see what she would say.
God, my Mom and Dad seem happier, and I am not so sad.
Thank You God for blessing me, with my Mom and Dad.

Re: My Granddaughter's Prayer
Your poems are simple and really touches my heart. Yes the poem pictures the modern day family, where the parents duty is to enjoy and give birth to kids and then throw the kids on the streets. It is so sad, people do not value the blessings of God. I have seen maried couples who are not blessed with kids begging people to pray for them. They would go to lengths to have kids.
Anyhow, I loved the poem and thank you for posting it here. Yes I would also agree that these poems will stay with us for life.
God bless you

Jeanne Guyon (1648-1717) wrote powerfully about the need for an intimate relationship with Almighty God, including this: “He who has a pure heart will never cease to pray; and he who will be constant in prayer, shall know what it is to have a pure heart.”
