WORDS

Matthew 12:36-37; “I tell you, on the day of judgment people will render
an account for every careless word they speak. By your words you will be acquitted,
and by your words you will be condemned.”

Powerful scripture! Does it really mean what it says? YES – IT DOES! You see we are
Made in the image of God. We are eternal beings. Having sinned in the Garden of Eden, we were put out of Paradise. We still have our eternal being, for we have the life and
Breath of God in us.

Did not God speak forth creation into existence? Genesis 1:3; “Then God said, “Let there be light, “and there was light. Se we see God spoke forth – His words and He created by them. When we speak, we can bring forth curses or blessings! Our words work either for God or against God. And so that is why we are accountable. Are we hindering God in this way?

There is an old nursery rhyme, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but nasty words will never hurt me.” Perhaps we can block out and disregard bad words spoken. But our words travel into the spirit realm: That create either blessings or curses on our lives and others. Doubt and unbelief can be manifested by words, as well as actions.

Deut. 27 to Deut. 28:6 Moses commanded the Jews to keep the Commandments. He listed the 12 curses to those disobedient. “And the people shall say amen!” – Deut. 17:15 to vs. 26. They were verbally binding themselves in agreement to being cursed or blessed by saying Amen! [So be it]. Jesus came to not do away with the law, but to fulfill it. With that being said, we are still bound by our words. We are either condemned or justified by our words. As the old adage goes, we will have no one but ourselves to blame.

James 1:26; “If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, his religion is vain.” Summary – If we say something bad, we can confess it and be forgiven. We can apologize and say we are sorry. But we can speak out our fears and doubts and make them become real. Let us realize that no one can control his tongue,
[James 3:8]. Just remember if we think it, that is one thing. If we say it, that is another.

God knew this about us! That is why he mentioned in Hebrews 3:13; “encourage yourselves daily while it is still “today,” so that none of you may grown hardened by the deceit of sin.” How shall we do this? By singing Psalms and Hymns. God made us for fellowship with Himself. If we are worshipping and praising Him, Gratitude and Love will flow from us, guarding our hearts and mouths. May we all lift up our eyes and hearts to our Savior who redeems us!
