The White Knight' by Gilbert Morris is published by Bethany House and is the 40th book of the House of Winslow series. The historical fiction series traces the fortunes of the Winslow family from an ancestral couple who arrived on the Mayflower. Like other books in the series, Morris centers an adventure around a Winslow descendent. Luke Winslow is a skilled airplane pilot fighting in the Spanish Civil War against Hitler's Luftwaffe in a prelude to what Europe would witness on a much grander scale a few years later. The war is a double tragedy for Winslow whose Spanish fiancee is killed in the war against fascism.

Luke's life spins out of control on returning to the United States. Unable to drown his sorrows in alcohol his excesses lead to the death of a good friend and a personal abyss only divine power can rescue him from. Divine and romantic love come expressed through an unlikely source- his deceased friend's sister.

One of the author's strengths is an ability to bond readers to his characters. One can empathize with Luke in all his weaknesses. An underlying strength of character was enabled by his future wife, Joelle and his growing relationship to Christ.

The author leads us to America's entry into the Second World War and Luke's return to the life of a fighter pilot. He tangles with one of Germany's aces with whom he first crossed paths in Spain. Their air battles and the outcome put the finishing touch on another Gilbert Morris success story. 'The White Knight' entertains and uplifts the reader while glorifying the creator.
