Only Christian Counts
There was a man who belonged to a denomination in Christianity and prided himself of his denomination.
He died and approached the gates of heaven wearing his denominational badge boldly, proudly and with full assurance of salvation.
He knocked on the gates of heaven and an angel came out and asked him:
Can I help you, Sir?
He replied, ‘Yes, open the gates of heaven for me, please.
‘Why?’ the angel enquired.
Because I am a staunch ….. (mentioning his denomination)
The angel revealed there were no such persons there.
Then the man continued:
Are there Pentecostals there?
No
Are there Catholics there?
No
Are there Methodists there?
No
Any Church of England members there?
No
The man was baffled, confused, irritated and agitated.
Then who is there then, tell me?
The angel replied:
Only Christians!
We are saved by grace through faith and not of works, lest any man should boast.Eph2:8-9
Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.John3:3
I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father except through Me. John14:6
Notice, He did not say; a religion or denomination or Church is the way.
There is a way that seems right unto a man, but at the end of it is the way of death.
By the deeds of the law shall no man be justified.
Rom3:3
There is none righteous, no, not even one.
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Rom3:23
No one enters heaven on the basis of their religion or denomination but upon accepting the finished work on Calvary’s Cross; upon accepting that Jesus is their Lord and Saviour; upon accepting that they are sinners and need forgiveness of sin and confess their sins and invite Jesus to take His rightful place.
That is what makes one righteous and qualifies one to have a reservation in heaven.
Many are still priding themselves of their religion, denomination or Church. Others are priding themselves of their good works or their self righteousness. They compare themselves to the worst in society and congratulate themselves: ‘I have not murdered anyone, I give alms to charity, I have not hurt anyone. Surely Heaven should be wide open to the likes of us.’
But they are being deceived. Everyone is a sinner and only the Lamb of God takes away the sin of this world. Sin’s price is paid, for those who do not rely on their good works but on the perfect Lamb of God as their substitute and atonement for sin .
