Women are Discriminated in the Bible
Women are discriminated in the Bible as the Bible says that purification after the birth of a male child it is 33 days and for a girl child is 66 days. Science does not agree to it at all. Why the period of purification is double in the Bible for a girl child and isn't it a contradiction to medical science???
A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as if she is unclean during her monthly period...If she gives birth to a daughter for two weeks the woman will be unclean; as during her period. Then she must wait for sixty-six days to be purified from her bleeding. (Leviticus 12:1-5)

Re: Women are Discriminated in the Bible
Ignorance is a curse and fools love ignorance because to them it is knowledge. The time you waste to find faults in the Bible, if you spend it using searching God, you will find God.
There is no discrimination between genders in the Bible. To God, there is no gender. To Him everyone is His creation and according to the Bible God loves His creation. Moreover, salvation is extended to both the genders and even to those who are confused about their gender. In other words, everyone is invited to and in the House of God.
God made a covenant with Abraham,
Circumcision was a covenant between God and Abraham, his descendants and believers. Now the rule of purification is shorter when a male child is born because of no gender superiority but because of the covenant of circumcision. Circumcision was a holy act and parents (mother and father) had to present the child to the Priest before God to be circumcised. Now during the period of ceremonially uncleanliness the mother was not allowed to appraoch or touch any holy thing. Therefore, as the custom of circumcision required she had to go through the custom and for that reason God allowed a mother to be proclaimed clean on the 34th day.
A girl child did not have to go through this custom so the the period of uncleanliness is 66 days. Now what has medical science to do with a custom? Simply nothing. It was a holy custom of Jews and believers and it was no medical science or doctor's prescription for a cure after the delivery of a child.

God made a covenant with Abraham,
And God said unto Abraham, And as for thee, thou shalt keep my covenant, thou and thy seed after thee throughout their generations.
This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee:
every male among you shall be circumcised.
And ye shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of a covenant betwixt me and you.
And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any foreigner that is not of thy seed.
He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. (Genesis 17:9-13)

Re: Women are Discriminated in the Bible
Thank you Daniel for your explanation. I admit when I went through the verses quoted by Sophie, for a second I was baffled and struggled with the answer. Sophie what do you believe in? I mean are you an atheist or belong to any other religion? Please tell us.

I believe in nothing because I am a proud atheist. I have one question to ask Daniel. He claims to be christian but in his reply he did not show his christian attitude. He called me a fool, Daniel I ask you why do you call me a fool and ignorant? Prove it to me that I am a fool and ignorant. As a christian you have sinned.

So true and very well explained. I agree that we always forget the love and sacrfice of Heavenly Father in the whole process and Jesus repeatedly reminded us of Heavenly Father. I loved the explanation and it really touched my heart.

Re: Women are Discriminated in the Bible
A really important question asked and very well explained explanation given. I never came across such a question. When the question was posted I searched the net but never found a sound and reasonable answer. However, I never struggled with my faith for I knew there must be some answer. The beauty of this forum is that the tone is always humble. And sorry Sophie that you an atheist. I have a question for you too. Why don't you go and preach to some atheists like you.

I am a practising Christian and calling you a fool and ignorant is no sin. I try to use Bible as much as possible in my life.
By calling you fool and ignorant I followed the Words of God recorded in the Bible and I believe to follow the Bible is worshipping God and is no sin.Psalm 14:1 wrote:Only a foold would say, "There is no God!" People like that are worthless; they are heartless and cruel and never do right
So as Christians greet each other on Christmas and Easter, I will surely greet you on Atheist Day.
God bless you Sopihie
Re: Women are Discriminated in the Bible
This is a new thing for me that there is an Atheist Day. Maybe where you live you have this day celebrated. I believe to the standards of christianity you sinned. Whatever you say, you have gone against the your word of god.

Re: Women are Discriminated in the Bible
Sophie, I am amazed that you do not know about The Atheist Day and yet you call yourself "A proud Atheist"? It has been celebrated for centuries now and infact all over the world. Dear it is 1 April. The Fool' Day and I will wish you on 1 April as the Bible says in Psalms 14:1, "Only A fool would say, "There is no God!"...
One question I would also like to ask, is that, if you do not believe in God, then why are you trying to disapprove God?
God bless you

Re: Women are Discriminated in the Bible
Dear Sophie, if you are an Atheist Daniel had every right to call you a fool, because in Matthew 5:22 Jesus said if you call any of your brothers a fool you are in danger of Hell. But since you are an Atheist, Daniel did not sin. Now than why are you in a Christian forum I ask. Another thing God does not make mistakes, if he tells you to be 66 days in purification; it is because it is good for your health. He cares about your health more than the scientist do. Do not believe everything the scientist tells you, because they are fools. Please read my letter Did we come from the Monkeys? and you will see what I am talking about. Forhisglory

Discrimination - Old and New Testaments
Hi Sophie,
I dunno if this will help, but you need to draw a sharp distinction between the Old and New Testaments. "Christian" believers see themselves as followers of Christ. Its their belief in the NEW Testament details about Christ that defines them as being 'christian'. in the first place.
Its quite clear in the New Testament that there is no discrimination toward women. Husbands are told in Ephesians 5:25 " Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it" Speaking as a male, that's a big ask. I'm told I should love my wife enough to be prepared to give my own life for hers if the need arose.

Re: Women are Discriminated in the Bible
Atheists seem intent on proving God does not exists, I always find this puzzling.
Anyway, Sophi if you are here it's because the Lords has put it in your heart. Now, I appreciate you may not see this but believe you me He knows you and wants you to receive His message.
