A law is an established principle that will work the same every time for anyone who will get involved. There are laws that govern the physical and spiritual realms. For example, the law of gravity operates in the physical realm. According to this law, when you throw a ball up, it will always come down. Or, if you step off the top of a building, the law of gravity dictates that you will fall to the ground.

However, in the spirit realm you live under either the law of sin and death or the law of the Spirit of life which is in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:2). The law of sin and death governs poverty, while the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus governs prosperity. In addition, it is the only law capable of overriding the law of sin and death. When most people hear the word prosperity they mistakenly think it only refers to money. However, prosperity involves more than money because it deals with every area of life. Prosperity also includes health, wealth, family and marriage.

If you are a Believer, you have a covenant with God and you are supposed to be wealthy. However, it is up to you to make sure that you activate the law that brings the promises of God into your life instead of the law that brings lack, insufficiency, sickness, bondage and ultimately death.

Which law have you activated? To help you identify which law may be operating in your life, examine the following seven laws that govern poverty:

1. Laziness (Proverbs 6:6—11; 24:30—34). Identify areas in your life where you may be slothful. Are you lazy when it comes to spending time in prayer, going that extra mile on your job, keeping your house clean or following through on commitments?

2. Withholding tithes and offerings (Proverbs 11:24). You must give to live. Until giving becomes your lifestyle, prosperity won't ever become a reality.

3. Hating correction and instruction (Proverbs 13:18). To refuse correction and instruction leads to lack, want and poverty.

4. Loving sleep (Proverbs 20:13). When you place sleeping above spending time with God and the Word, you miss out on receiving wisdom that can change your life for the better.

5. Addictive behaviors and a lack of temperance (Proverbs 23:21). Spending your time and money to indulge in addictive behaviors such as drunkenness, gluttony and pornography will lead to poverty.

6. Following negative people and worthless pursuits (Proverbs 28:19, AMP). Don't spend your time with people that don't have your best interests at heart. Following worthless ventures ultimately rob you of all your money. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

7. Trying to become rich at any cost (Proverbs 28:22, AMP). If you are willing to damage the lives of others or compromise the Word to get money, you are going to end up in poverty.
In the same way that the laws governing prosperity cause you to become rich, spiritual laws that govern poverty cause you to become poor. Remember that there is no prosperity apart from the Word of God. So, study the Word daily and allow it to become the basis of your prosperity.
