History

This son of Josiah had the opportunity to do good; however he chose not to take his father's lead. Eliakim "did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God" (II Chronicles 36:5). At last God's patience had run out with his people, and He sent Nebuchadnezzar to carry the people to captivity in Babylon. Though he had the shining example of the revered Josiah to emulate, Eliakim obstinately refused, thus bringing on the final downfall of his people.
