The One Thing I Lack

The One Thing I Lack
The one thing I lack
Means missing the mark
Which can hinder progress
And limit my success.
Like the rich young ruler
Whose wealth was a barrier
Whose destiny was scuttled
For not being a disciple.
He sank his boat
As he relied on his coat
For warmth and protection
Instead of the Rock of Salvation.
One thing, like the fox, little
That spoils the vine, looming miracle
These are small big things
Strongholds with sting.
Lord, open my eyes to see
This one thing in me
Acknowledge it and let you
Bring me breakthrough.
We often focus on what is fixed
And ignore what needs to be fixed
Martha focused much on hospitality
But ignored priority- intimacy.
Paul, said this one thing I do:
So we must find that one thing and do
David sought Him to behold His beauty
Seek Him to behold His majesty and glory.
For some the one thing will be fornication,
Indecision, indiscretion or procrastination.
For others it could be salvation
or communication or miscommunication.
The one thing I lack is progressive
Keeps me satisfied but restive
Takes me from glory to glory
In the knowledge of the High and Holy
It keeps me dependent on Him
Keeps me praying to Him
Helps me draw strength and wisdom
For His Kingdom to come.
Psalms:27:4: One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
Psalms:27:5: For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
Psalms:27:6: And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.
M'r:10:17: And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
M'r:10:18: And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
M'r:10:19: Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
M'r:10:20: And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
M'r:10:21: Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
M'r:10:22: And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
M'r:10:23: And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
M'r:10:24: And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
M'r:10:25: It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Ph'p:3:10: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Ph'p:3:11: If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
Ph'p:3:12: Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
Ph'p:3:13: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Ph'p:3:14: I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ
Lu:10:38: Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
Lu:10:39: And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
Lu:10:40: But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
Lu:10:41: And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
Lu:10:42: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.Song:2:15: Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.
Re: The One Thing I Lack
What a wonderful and AMEN to your prayer. I enjoyed going through the poem. I agree that we focus on things that are fixed and close our eyes on the things that need to be fixed i.e. our spiritual life.Fenny wrote:Lord, open my eyes to see

We ask for blessings and favors yet we forget the blessings and favors God has given us over others. Thank you and God bless you for sharing this wonderful poem.
