The hand of darkness grips the earth refusing the sun to rise
And dark fingers squeeze the dawn dominating the lightless skies
And just when it looks as if the dark strong hold will win
Radiant beams break the grasp and early morning begins
And O what a dazzling array racing across the atmosphere
As night concedes the struggle and the beauty of God appears
The hand of sin grips our souls dominating the lightless prize
Unwilling decisions squeeze our hearts refusing the Son inside
Our reluctance makes it easy for Satan to hold on and win
And only Jesus can break the grasp to usher salvation in
But O what a beautiful day to live without death’s fear
To give into the will of God and to know Jesus holds you dear
