Controlling Israelites
I am doing this small research for my Church Sunday School class that how did Moses control Israelites who numbered 603,550 in their exodus from Egypt to the promised land. My research involves:
In Christ
- Calling the twelve tribes for any reason whether it be a festival or to tell them about a command of God.
- How did they move as twelve tribes logistically.

Re: Controlling Israelites
Wow this is huge number and I also wonder how Moses controlled them. God must have given him some kind of method to control them, otherwise it is just like controlling a city without any modern gimmicks like satellite. I will look for the answer and will post it here. Sounds very interesting research you have taken up for the kids.

Re: Controlling Israelites
This is a tough one and I think the answer lies in when God walked with Israelites as a cloud. It is written somewhere in Exodus that a cloud moved with the Israelites and I think this is the answer. I searched the net but could not find the answer. Maybe someone will find the answer or know the answer. To me I think the answer is cloud that moved in front of Israelites during their journey.

Controlling Israelites
Hi Lisa. The best to my knowledge God directed the people with a
cloud by day and fire by night. About Moses controlling such a stiff neck
people, well he had to pray allot and ask God for help and finally His own
father in law said to him to choose some of Moses best trusties and to divide
them into group. Well I could not remember so here it is I hope this was your
question Exodus 18:21- 22``Find some capable, godly, honest men who hate
bribes, and appoint them as judges, one judge for each 1000 people; he in turn
will have ten judges under him, each in charge of a hundred; and under each of
them will be two judges, each responsible for the affairs of fifty people; and
each of these will have five judges beneath him, each counseling ten persons.
22. Let these men be responsible to serve the
people with justice at all times. Anything that is too important or complicated
can be brought to you. But the smaller matters they can take care of
themselves. That way it will be easier for you because you will share the
burden with them. Thank you for this question it makes us study harder

Dear Lisa
May God bless you with understanding so that you may touch hearts of others in Jesus name. AMEN.
You research topic is very interesting and I know the kids at Sunday School will like it very much. You can use Role-play to teach them about your questions. I strongly believe that children should and must know what our faith is because when they face kids who do not believe in God, they face challenges and disturbing moments in their lives and even rejection. To all parents, I make this request, to make their children learn about God and His love and compassion for us. They must know what sin is and what are its consequences.
Here is the answer to your research questions and I hope that this passage is helpful to you.
Now, this is way the way, Moses controlled the movement of Israelites, whether the cloud over the Tabernacle moved, or Moses had to tell them about a command of God or for festivals.
Please do remember there is a difference between Heads of Tribes of Israelites and Heads of clans of Israelites. Do not mix up with them, use the information provided in Numbers 2 and 3.
God bless all

The LORD said to Moses, "Make two trumpets of hammered silver, and use them for calling the community together (603,550 Israelites) and for having the camps set out. When both are sounded, the whole community is to assemble before you at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. If only one is sounded, the leaders - the heads of clans of Israel - are to assemble before you. When a trumpet blast is sounded, the tribes camping on the east are to set out. At the sounding of the second blast, the camps on the south are to set out. The blast will be the signal for setting out. To gather the assembly, blow the trumpets, but not with the same signal.
The sons of Aaron, the priests are to blow the trumpets. This is to be a lasting ordinance for you and the generations to come. When you go into battle in your own land against an enemy who is oppressing you, sound a blast on the trumpets. Then you will be remembered by the LORD your God and rescued from your enemies. Also at your times of rejoicing - your appointed feasts and New Moon Festivals - you are to sound the trumpets over your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, and they will be a memorial for you before your God. I am the LORD your God." (Numbers 10:1-10)
Now, this is way the way, Moses controlled the movement of Israelites, whether the cloud over the Tabernacle moved, or Moses had to tell them about a command of God or for festivals.

Re: Controlling Israelites
I never thought of such a question and indeed it is quite challenging to think how Moses controlled ruly and strong headed Israelites. Indeed this would have been a big task for Moses and he continuosly begged God to spare them of His wrath when they sinned.
God bless all for posting your relpies and making it very interesting for us.
