Keeping Your Body Beautiful
Many people don't realize the important functions their skin performs. It enables you to sense temperature, touch and texture. It helps keep your body temperature normal and prevents dehydration of internal organs. It is also your body's first line of defence against environmental elements that could threaten your health.
According to Carol Rennehan, Consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics, Ltd., "How good your facial and body skin looks and how healthy it is depends, to a great degree, on three factors: how you've cared for it, how aware you are of factors, like the sun, that affect it and lastly, how you've dealt with any skin problems."
Basic body care is a natural extension of basic skin care. But body skin differs from facial skin, and so it has different needs.
Three easy steps form the foundation of your basic body care routine: exfoliating, or buffing twice a week to remove the dry, dead cells on the skin's surface; cleansing, to remove the dirt and perspiration that accumulate over the course of the day; and moisturizing to help keep body skin soft and smooth. "As a rule, the skin on your body has fewer sebaceous glands than the skin on your face, so it is more vulnerable to dryness," Rennehan says, "so moisturizing is very important."
And of course, always use a sun protection product to protect against the sun's harmful rays.
