I was sitting in church and a missionary had come to speak.
His ministry was in Asia; I thought, that sounds pretty neat.
His message came from the New Testament in 2nd Corinthians;
Chapters 4 thru 6; please turn there, my friends.
He began to read the verses and to explain every line;
When he finished, he had touched more hearts than mine.
I got so excited; I wanted to travel the world.
Pack my bags honey; I’m giving this a whirl.
Then I heard from God; oh, what a pity.
I can’t get you off the couch to witness in your own city.
Why is it, when we hear about the world we come so unwound?
And yet we will not spread the word in our hometown?
I believe that God wants to use us; I know that is his plan.
Do it first in our neighborhoods and then across the lands.
Don’t take my word for it; don’t let me lead you astray.
Get on your hands and knees; get in your closets and pray.
Ask what God wants; what he wants of you today.
Get out of your comfort zone and humbly obey.
And on the Day of Atonement, our works to be tested by fire;
You know all the things that God tried to inspire.
And when we are at Jesus’ feet, our works to lie down;
I pray there’s no ash in our hands, but a beautiful crown.

Re: Works
Very nice and true. Most of us cannot even leave a movie and go to pray. When we come to the witnessing of the Gospel, we are simply too lazy. Yet we want God to fulfill all His glorious promises in our lives.
Witnessing of the Gospel does not only refer to preaching the Gospel but also following rules and commandments of the God. Like we must be good and sincere employees. We must be good, sincere and law-abiding citizens. Even following the rules on Freeway/Motorway is also witnessing the Gospel, for we are following God in that respect too. Thank yu for sharing a thought provoking poem.
God bless you

We always put our needs first and then we think that there are many in the field of preaching what is our need. We wil be running into a crowd. Amazing poem which really touches the heart to question, "What are we doing for God?"
God bless
