Daddy’s Little Girl
Sitting on the front porch with his little girl;
Looking at the sky; seeing what God unfurled.
Baby, do you think that God is way up there?
She answered, maybe, pushing back her hair.
My teacher says that God is everywhere.
Daddy, do you think that God is just up there?
No my little Sweetheart, it’s because of the pretty skies.
She smiled up at him and wiped her sleepy eyes.
Rising up on his lap, she began to ask the questions.
They rolled off her tongue in endless procession.
Could God be in the pasture; where the wind is blowing the trees?
Or over there by the barn, close to the honey bees.
With her little finger she pointed, there and there and there.
Daddy, I think my teacher is right, I think God is everywhere.
He hugged her tightly and kissed her on the head;
I love you Sweetheart and I like what you said.
