Understanding the BIBLE
Greetings, peace and blessings in the name of Jesus Christ
I have learnt to understand the Bible some years back with the help of prayers, and God is so kind to me that He led to me to understand it. I will share how I study the Bible and if it helps someone, then my small and humble service to God is done.
Basically it all started with one verse of the Bible, In Him [Jesus] all the promises of God [Father] are YES" [1 Corinthians 1:20]
As Paul said, " Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.
Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified." [1 Corinthians 9:24-27]
When we analyze Paul's theory, it means that we have to prepare first and then get into the race. So first of all I keep a pen and a note-book with me. Then I pray a small prayer to God through Jesus Christ to help me.
PRAYER
Dear Father, you promised that call to me and I will tell you great and unsearchable things that I do not know, Father, I pray that when I read Bible, pour your Spirit on me, so that according to your promise I will be able to understand Bible and I promise that I will apply what I learn today and will tell others too about your mighty and wonderful things that I will learn today, in Jesus name. AMEN
Then as I go through chapter, I make notes of verses. After reading the chapter, I summarize the chapter and write down what I learnt today. What God asked me to do and how can I apply this to my life.
I will give you a sample of my Bible Study below of Exodus 34. I will start with small headings first.
LORD Proclaiming His Name
Here I write the verse and reference no
Then I write what I understood from the verse a small description.
SNARES
Here I write the verse and reference no
Then I write what I understood from the verse a small description.
Then I write the summary of the chapter
SUMMARY
I should not worship other god/s besides God the Father. If I worship God the Father then He will do awesome work in my life. I should get involve in other god/s or show interest, I should get involved in women of other faiths because they are like SNARES and will bring destruction on me and generations to come. If I will not follow this then God will stand against me.
This is the way I understand it, and then as I go on through whole Bible, I can relate everything because of the summary I wrote. I also remember what a certain Chapter of a certain Book of Bible says.
I guess, if anyone will try, they will surely benefit from this way. However, I firmly believe that, you should follow, what is comfortable to you. Certainly this is comfortable to me. One thing is still there, if you are not sure how to study and understand Bible, ask God. God guides everyone who asks from Him.
