Definition of the word Parable
A simple story illustrating a moral or religious lesson.
Source: The Fee Online Dictionary
The Greek word for parable is parabole that means a similitude or which is in comparison, like unto something else. In simpler words, a story of one thing that is an analogy of something else.
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" (2 Timothy 3:16)
Even if you call it parable, there was a lesson to be learnt and looking at your reply, do you mean to say that Jesus was just making up stories and misleading others? As you have said, In other words, not real. In simple English that would mean deceit.
"He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in His mouth" (1 Peter 2:22)

Re: If you cannot love an eternal torment god
I think it does not matter whether hell is real or not, the reality is that we should seek everlasting life. However, we should not preach what we do not know. If Bible talks of hell, then it is real, why would God talk of something that is temporary? God talks of sin and consequences of sin.
If the reward is real then punishment is also real. If reward is everlasting then punishment is also everlasting, if pleasure is everlasting then punishment is everlasting. Why I say so because God is a just God.
