I Have a Friend

I have a friend
A faithful friend
Who is always there
Who always cares.

I have a friend
A friend in need and a friend indeed
With whom I have a covenant
A covenant of blood
According to the Word.

This friend laid down His life for me
And His blood speaks for me
In the court of heaven
He is my Attorney,
My Advocate before the Father,
Daily pleading my case.
No curse causeless alights on me
I am redeemed from the curse of the law
Abraham’s blessings are mine

Principalities and power
Cower before my friend
They bow the knee
At the name of Jesus
They scamper, flee, scatter
At the proclamation
Of the matchless Name
Above every other name.

I have a friend
On whom I depend
He defends and fends for me
In winter or summer
Through hell or high water
He remains true
He is able to do
More than I can ask
Or think or imagine

He is the Resurrection and the Life
The way the truth and the life
He raises dead dreams
With Him the valley of dry bones
Is raised into a mighty army
To the glory of the Living God.
Because with Him ALL things are possible.

I have a friend!
In His sufficiency I am sufficient.
In my weakness His strength is made perfect.
My life is hidden in Christ in God.

That is why even when I am hard-pressed
He shields me and I am not crushed.
That is whey when I am perplexed
He encourages me and I don’t despair.
Yes, that is why even when I am persecuted
He comforts me, saying ‘You are not abandoned.’
Even when I am knocked down and the count is on
Like in a boxing ring, He raises me before it is out.
