Great Scriptures on Prayer - Part IV
O LORD, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief. --Psalm 143:1
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight --Proverbs 3:5-6
The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous. --Proverbs 15:29
The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD; He directs it like a watercourse wherever He pleases. -- Proverbs 21:1 If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable. --Proverbs 28:9
Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe. --Proverbs 29:25
Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal. --Isaiah 26:2-4
"O LORD Almighty, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Give ear, O LORD, and hear; open your eyes, O LORD, and see. --Isaiah 37:16-17
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. --Isaiah 40:31
Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while he is near. --Isaiah 55:6
So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. --Isaiah 55:11
"All who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to My covenant--these I will bring to My holy mountain and give them joy in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations." --Isaiah 56:6-7
Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and He will say: Here am I. --Isaiah 58:9
I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, and give Him no rest till He establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth. --Isaiah 62:6-7
I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which He is to be praised, according to all the LORD has done for us—yes, the many good things He has done for the house of Israel, according to his compassion and many kindnesses. --Isaiah 63:7
I know, O LORD, that a man's life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps. Correct me, LORD, but only with justice—not in your anger, lest you reduce me to nothing. --Jeremiah 10:23-24
Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper. --Jeremiah 29:7
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the LORD. --Jeremiah 29:11-14
I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness. I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt. --Jeremiah 31:3-4
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. --Jeremiah 33:3 Perhaps they will bring their petition before the LORD, and each will turn from his wicked ways, for the anger and wrath pronounced against this people by the LORD are great." --Jeremiah 36:7
Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. I say to myself, 'The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.' --Lamentations 3:22-25
Let us lift up our hearts and our hands to God in heaven, and say: "We have sinned and rebelled and you have not forgiven. --Lamentations 3:41-42
So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed. --Daniel 9:3-4
Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, O Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. Give ear, O God…We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. ---Daniel 9:17-18
From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God. He said: "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry. --Jonah 2:1-3
LORD, I have heard of Your fame; I stand in awe of Your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. --Habakkuk 3:2
What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. --Micah 6:8
"And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. --Zechariah 12:10
And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. --Matthew 6:5-6
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. --Matthew 6:33
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. --Matthew 7:7
Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. --Matthew 17:20-21
Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. --Matthew 18:19-20
Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. "It is written," he said to them, " 'My house will be called a house of prayer,' but you are making it a 'den of robbers.'" --Matthew 21:12-13
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. --Matthew 21:22
Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?" he asked Peter. "Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done." --Matthew 26:36, 39-42
